I loved his random cameos in Adam Sandler movies, also he was perfectly cast as Mike's Brother on The Middle.

CBC radio has included a couple of the Frank Stallone jokes in their reports today. Great hearing those again. Surprised Stallone hasn't tweeted something. Surely he got over it?

When I first heard about Norm today my first thought was that this hit me just as hard as Chris Farley. And Chris Farley’s death hit me HARD. Granted, I was still a teenager when Farley died and I’m now older and more hardened to the tragedies in the world but this is a big blow.

So fucking sad. No offense to any Carl’s, Charles’, Coreys’, Carlos’, cats, cesspools, etc, but the letter C should be wiped off the the face of the alphabet, never to be seen or heard from again. Fuck! Good guy, so dry and that damn cute smirk!

Re: Norm MacDonald dead at 61

Back when I was playing in a rock band, during a break at rehearsal I got on the mic to do a "stand up routine" and had the rest of the band in stiches. I was just doing a verbatim performance of a Norm MacDonald special on Comedy Central.
"Cliff diving. That's fun to watch. Attempted suicide as a sport. Next week on ESPN: Washing Down Quaaludes with Wood Alcohol"
The Dating Game. "Bachelor #3 is a shadowy lurking character. From no fixed address, please welcome....he's just a guy over there"

RIP, Norm. You were one of the greats.

This is just sad. Couldn't believe it when I read about it...He was just a gem, especially on the Weekend Update and every appearance he had on Conan...Just super depressing, and bummed out now. Damn.

I love the response this thread has had. It's hard to gauge how well comedians land with people, and I know he had the ability to kind of make you feel like you were in on an inside joke which was pretty skillful.

Re: Norm MacDonald dead at 61

His SNL News is where I really starting liking that part of the show again. Before that, Chevy Chase and those years were the best. I don’t even know what the hell is going on with SNL any more, and I have no idea who the cast is. But ever since Norm did that segment, it’s kind of been the gold standard everyone else has failed at.

Then there’s Turd Ferguson.

Re: Norm MacDonald dead at 61

What I love most about Norm is he never played or even tried to please the crowd, as so many comedians do that today (especially with their politics). He would tell his joke or story, and it wasn't worried if the whole crowd go it or not. He was also a very smart comedian (which he played down) as he would dissect certain jokes, and make you look at things differently after that. I still wish he would have gotten one of the Late Night gigs as that would have been appointment TV for me every night.

That was the special I copied, although the clip here cuts off before my favorite line in the bit. It's where he talks about putting sweaters on wiener dogs, and how that must be embarrassing for them; "Them's mean streets when you're a wiener dog in a cardigan".

I also use a line from that show when I see homeless people with dogs. "Dog's gotta be thinking, 'hey buddy, I can do this on my own.'"

I really doubt Bob Dole actually shared that picture and sent the tweet.
