He was also great in The Middle. On the show, he came up with the idea to have diapers that contain the logo of a team you hate so when your baby takes a dump it makes you happy that the opposing team is being pooped on (I just googled, I believe the diaper line was called Lil Rivals). Folks will be enjoying Norm MacDonald's humor for decades to come.

I mean is he dead? That's what the Germans would lead you to believe... So many great jokes, another spark has died. :(

He was on the talk show I produce back in 2009. We set up a poker table and had him teach our hosts. He was hilarious and fun to have on set. RIP, so sad.

Ow, the only other performer's death that hurt this much was George Carlin.

There is an embarrassment of riches of Norm on youtube; podcasts, TV show appearances, his own videos. For the past two years not a week has gone by I haven't spent a couple hours in the evening enjoying some drinks and listening to Norm. He is so funny, and wise.

His book Based On A True Story is fantastic. I know this is a real back-handed compliment, but it's a real novel. Not some tossed off, celebrity joke book. He can write as well as any of your Nick Hornbys or Jonathan Franziens.

So glad I got the chance to see him perform in Regina, Saskatchewan about ten or eleven years ago. My table was right at the foot of the stage, in front of his mike. He stood rooted to that spot for the entire show, I don't even remember seeing him shift his weight from one leg to the other. Great show, he made me laugh so hard.

I really believed we would cross paths one day so I could say, "Hey, Norm, thanks for bringing so much pleasure into my life."

Wow, what a talented, fascinating man.

Damn, he was a comedic genius. His roast of his good friend Bob Saget remains an all-time classic piece of comedy gold.

RIP :(

He was SO funny. 😢

What little I know about him, I'm not surprised that he didn't reveal his cancer diagnosis, he seemed to be quite a private person in real life. It's weird, over the last couple months I started watching episodes of The Norm Show, which I hadn't seen since they first aired, and I still find them funny (had to watch them on YouTube because the DVD set is long out of print and expensive to buy nowadays). Loved him on Weekend Update as well, it sucked that an NBC exec (Don Ohlmeyer) who was a friend of OJ Simpson had MacDonald removed from Weekend Update because of Norm's merciless (and funny) OJ jokes at the time.

Norm's brother Neil is a journalist for CBC News, I'm sure he'll come up with a really good written memorial in the next couple days. Damn I'm sad.

Mainly knew of him from his many appearances on Conan O’Brien’s various late night shows over the years. Always a fun guest, and they had good chemistry. RIP.

Man what terrible timing for Conan and Letterman to not have a show.

RIP to one of the funniest men who even lived.

One of the purest just straight-up funny people. One of that rare breed of comedians who wasn't using stand-up as a means to more, just wanted to tell jokes and make people laugh.

Some new revelations about his cancer. He contracted it from . . .
Spoiler:

. . . you guessed it

A unique brand of comedy that will be sorely missed in the coming years. There was no one quite like Norm and his delivery. I guess we are never getting Dirty Work 2 now...

The last time he posted something was when Regis passed, but I'm not at all surprised.

This sucks. He was lightyears ahead of the others and by far my favorite.

His Moth joke is the funniest thing I've ever heard.

The last thing I saw Norm in was when he had a recurring part on The Middle.

I only saw the first season of The Orville, but I know he was the voice of some alien creature.

The fact that he had cancer for 9 years tells me he was going through treatment on and off over the years and at some point, it stopped working and became terminal. Really sad.

His Weekend Update years were legendary and his voice work on The Orville was always a riot. He was one of the best.
