I'm sure that'll be covered ad nauseum in the next couple episodes. Apparently it doesn't like when you try to reset the sacred timeline.

Those TVA costumes really look like they are made by cub scouts.

Based on the posts you make on this forum, I'd guess you feel that way every five minutes.

The show is unraveling a mystery. It hasn't been fully unraveled yet. This is only episode two, Wandavision didn't start explaining stuff until episode 4. And you were confused about that show as well:

The reset charges show up in the first episode. We see one go off when the TVA first pick ups Loki. We then see one stolen at the end of the first episode.

At the beginning of the second episode, Loki explains what they do as they proceed through the Renaissance Faire:
And what do these do?

Reset charges prune the affected radius of a branched timeline, allowing time to heal all its wounds. Which sounds like a nice way of saying disintegrate everything in its vicinity.
Dropping a bunch of disintegrators at various points in time is likely to produce a lot of variant timelines.

My theory on "Lady Loki" is:
Spoiler:
She's a variant from before the timelines were merged. She didn't branch from the Sacred Timeline, but was original from one of the alternate timelines that were destroyed/merged that somehow survived. She may be an alternate Loki in some way, like Odin rescued an orphan Ice Giant girl instead of boy. Odin gave her a different name. But when the Sacred Timeline was made, the Timekeepers decided on a boy orphan being rescued out of the possibilities. So now she's resentful of Loki, because he took her place in the timeline, so she wants to wreck havok to restore multiple timelines so she has a place to exist.

On variants in general:
Spoiler:
While they can be created via time travel, I think there's also the possibility that the timeline wants to split into multiple timelines, it's natural state. After all, the story is that there were originally many timelines, which the Timekeepers merged. So a single "sacred" timeline is unnatural, trying to impose order on a chaotic natural world. But the timeline keeps wanting to split. So when there's events/decisions where a person could go either way, both events occur, one perpetuating the sacred timeline, one creating a variant timeline. And the people most likely to create such splits are the impulsive, unpredictable types, which is why Loki is one of their most common variants.

About the other analyst:
Spoiler:
At first, I thought Ravonna must be having some secret plans she doesn't what Mobius to know about, maybe a power grab for the TVA. Maybe she's in league with "Lady Loki," who brings her trophies on their secret meetings. But another thought: what if the TVA analysts themselves can go variant at times, and are sometimes reset? What if this isn't the first Mobius? There were past Mobiuses that did missions and brought back trophies, and they developed too much free will and were reset. It would explain why Mobious doesn't remember leaving the coffee rings on Ravonna's furniture.

All speculation, and I'm likely wrong about some or all of it, but it is intriguing. Definitely a show where all the details matter.

Same here but I only see him as Myawani from Tacoma FD. Doesn't help that the two characters are similarly dim-witted.

Re: Loki (S1E02) -- "The Variant" -- 6/16/21

I don't know if this was planned, but if we are talking creating of Multiverse/branching off of timeline/continuity etc. Marvel dropped this episode on

6/16

annnnd...

In the fictional Marvel Comics multiverse, Earth-616 is the primary continuity in which most Marvel Comics titles take place.(from Wikipedia)

(Perhaps a good reason why things were moved to the Wednesday release for this show )

I just went back and edited my post to add that but, yes, that would be a good indication that this was totally planned.

Re: Loki (S1E02) -- "The Variant" -- 6/16/21

Though should be noted that it's probably just a comics nod as 616 appears in the MCU in other instances like:
-Spider Man: Far From Home Mysterio says that's the Earth he's from
-Thor 2 it is on the board Selvig is writing on as "616 Universe"
-The van that Scott was trapped in and popped out of in Endgame was stored in the locker LANG 616

But, hey, it's still pretty cool

It's airing on Wednesdays because The Bad Batch show is airing on Fridays. They don't want the shows cannibalizing each other's numbers.

Easily my favorite marvel show so far. I enjoyed Wanda and Cap, but this is a level above.

Yes, this was my thought but still a cool coincidence if so or nicely selected weekday to correspond with 6/16 if not.

I'm liking Owen Wilson. He was annoyed when Loki was explaining where the variant is hiding:

Loki started the Wednesday airings and now, all new episodes for every D+ original show will be released on Wednesday.

It also keeps Disney away from Netflix’s Friday releases.

How long before Loki tempts Moebius with a jet-ski?

The Hiddleston - Owen Wilson dynamic is totally fantastic. Could watch them banter for six hours. I hope to get more of it, even though the story seems to have drifted away from that buddy pairing.

I highly doubt Disney+ altered its entire release strategy so that one episode would land on 6/16.

Better than releasing on Thor's day.

If you want more of the actors together, checkout 2011's Midnight in Paris from Woody Allen. It's a brief scene, but worthwhile, and deals with time travel in a roundabout way.

Re: Loki (S1E02) -- "The Variant" -- 6/16/21

Kate Herron, director on this show, just tweeted they officially wrapped production of the show.

As for this episode, some good stuff. I'm liking this much more than Falcon and the Winter Soldier through 2 episodes. The ending was an interesting cliffhanger with Loki ditching the TVA and pursuing that Variant.

And if so, why on the second and not first episode drop? 6.16 is when to premiere, if you're doing that on purpose.
