re: SNL General Discussion Thread

I liked Beck Bennet. He was one of the better current cast members.

Lauren Holt got shafted. I think she had potential. She seemed to have lost some weight during the season too. If she dropped some more, I think she'd be a good looking chick with curves.
Definitely not a Bryant lookalike.

Beck Bennett. That's a surprise and a loss. He and Kenan are the best male sketch players on the show.

Wow, I'm pissed that Bennet isn't returning. He was the best male cast member. He will be sorely missed.

Sucks he is gone though he got no praise when he was on the show

Lauren Holt was a Aidy Bryant knockoff but Aidy is better.

I thought Andrew Dismukes was gone since he was forgettable and had no impact on the show last year.

I liked Beck, he was solid and reliable as well as somewhat relatable. He'd never be the next Belushi / Murphy or Sandler but he had an everyman vibe to him.

Holt on the other hand never made a real impact but who knows when Aidy will need a body double to stand in for her in the future...

Also sad to see Beck leave...

I didn't realize it was Beck who brought this 'baby man' character to the show. For some reason I thought it was some other already forgotten white male cast member who had already left but I guess I was wrong. I have to admit I instantly hated these sketches. I didn't find it funny at all, it felt too high concept and borderline loathsome. But rewatching his portrayal I have to admit, its an uncanny recreation of how a baby acts. He's definitely a talented guy.

It's too bad SNL only really used him as just another one of their 'utility' white male cast members and never really got to develop the type of recurring characters that Kate McKinnon did. His Mike Pence was memorable and very subtle but never really had any memorable moments.

Hope Beck ends up moving on to better things!

So...we get another season of Kate McKinnon doing impersonations of men and such ? Her stuff was funny initially, but it's really getting old at this point. Come to think of it, so is everything else.

I've said this for about two years now. I really liked McKinnon at the beginning, but so tired of her now. At this point Cecily Strong is my favorite female in the cast. I know it won't happen any time soon, but I wouldn't shed a tear if Lorne Michaels left the show.

I like Kate and think she is the best thing on the show along with Michael Che who is one of the more edgier comics on the show who can't show all of his cards in the times we live in with everybody getting upset on Twitter.

I love Che on weekend update. His HBO Max sketch show is pretty funny too.

There are a few sketches on That Damn Micheal Che that seemed like they were made for SNL but were probably deemed a little too much. Funny stuff either way.

8 years is a good run. I did see him in a movie over the summer. Totally bizarre story, indi film, and script that defies explanation. I'll try and look the name up later.

re: SNL General Discussion Thread

The problem with SNL nowadays is that they don't seem to have the aggressive nature they did in the old days when it comes to public figures and celebrities being lampooned. It's like they don't want to push the envelope anymore for fear they may piss off someone who may be a potential host one day , or might be a good friend of Lorne Michaels.

Bennet had a very brief role in season 2 of "Shrill" too. But I don't recall seeing him in anything else. Now I'm really curious why he left the show.
