Wait the "Is it Cake" guy is on SNL?
That's the reason all of my kids know who Mikey Day is.

She's never watched SNL (but has seen plenty of "Is it Cake") and one night she was hanging out in the family room with me when SNL came on. She didn't stick around long but during the opening credits she said "Mikey Day, I know him!" Of course she had zero clue who anyone else was.

It's probably behind a paywall, but the NY Times has a nice article about Stephen DeMaria, who just retired after 50 years of building all the sets for SNL

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
This just came out on Showtime
I wonder why this did not get a bigger release or in 2015 nobody knew or appreciated Colin Jost from SNL as a writer?
This was his attempt at a raunchy coming of age comedy filled with former SNL stars like Fred Armisen, Will Forte, Cecily Strong, Kate McKinnon, and Bobby Moynihan.
I could have done with less scenes looking at Mike O' Brien with his porn stache, speedo, and sandals.

I think it was on Netflix within a month of it's digital release, wasn't it?

Colin Jost was not yet very famous in 2015, and movies are not usually promoted because of who wrote it.

There are of course exceptions. Paddy Chayefsky’s Network, Colin Jost’s Staten Island Summer most notably.

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
I don't think so and Netflix streaming was in its infancy in 2015 and probably pay per view was the only way to access it.
It is not Seth Rogan or prime Apatow quality but it had some laughs here and there and a rare comedy to watch these days.

Will everybody in this photo return?
https://latenighter.com/news/saturda...n-51-premiere/

As Saturday Night Live hits the halfway point of its four-month summer hiatus, NBC has officially announced the premiere date for the show’s 51st season: October 4, 2025.
Outside of the show’s strike-delayed return in 2023, this marks the latest fall premiere for SNL since 2003, when Season 29 also kicked off on October 4.
This year’s second episode, scheduled for October 11, will air exactly 50 years to the night since the show’s original debut on October 11, 1975.
LateNighter has learned that the first half of the season, running through the midseason holiday break, will consist of three blocks of three consecutive episodes each. The show will take scheduled breaks on October 25 and November 22 & November 29. This season’s Christmas episode—typically a festive, star-studded affair—is slated for December 20. The December episode often draws some of the show’s highest ratings of the year
If tradition holds, the next few weeks could bring news of cast departures, as the show typically signs contract renewals with most returning cast members by August 1.
August has also historically been the month for in-studio auditions as Lorne Michaels and his team scout for new featured players. Official announcements regarding the show’s cast—both returning and new—usually drop in mid-to-late September, followed by word of the season’s first host(s).

A friend of mine in the NYC area has been entering that lottery every year for over two decades now, he's never been picked.

They should get Timothy Olyphant to play Hegseth if they do any new bits about him in the next season.

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
I'll throw a party if Jane Wickline is gone, easily the most untalented person I've ever seen on the show.
I won't be shocked if Heidi Gardner, Mikey Day or Bowen Yang are gone. They have all gone as far as they can on the show and all moved on to other ventures. I won't be sorry to see Michael Che leave although I know he has his fans, just never been one of them. Colin Jost will probably take over for Lorne so I doubt he is going anywhere. Marcelo has also been doing a lot of TV/film work but Id be happy to see him stay. Ashley Padilla hasn't given us much yet but she plays the 'mom' role in all the sketches well. The rest of the newbies arent memorable enough. Id be happy to see any of them go or stay. Except Wickline, she has got to go!

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
It always amazes me how long it takes for the cast announcements to come out. Is Lorne still debating who should stay after nearly 4 months off?
And I gotta say, I kind of liked Jane Wickline and her dry humor. It's a different element to the show. I like off-beat performers.
But by all means pleasr send Devin Walker packing though.

Bowen Yang is doing a lot of other stuff but don't think he has the desire to leave and he can become a even bigger star on the show.
I don't dislike him but Andrew Dismukes if he left would not be a big loss.
He has been in the show for a while and no memorable repeating characters or sketches.
Maybe he has talent that is not being showcased on the show but on another show or platform it would show up.

I think they both play the role well, but I don't think the show needs both of them.

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Mikey Day is 45 and Dismukes is 30.
Even if Day steps back from appearing in so many sketches, and before season 50 he appeared in a lot of sketches, he is one of their top writers.
This past season, Dismukes was showing up in more sketches that Day would usually have been cast in, like the husband in the Domingo sketches.
