Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
50th season. Not anniversary. Because we're not computers, we don't start counting at 0, we start counting at 1.The first season was 1975-1976. But the first anniversary would therefore have happened in October of 1976, early on in the second season. Similarly, this October will be 50 years since the premiere, even though the 50th season has already ended.
That said, they kinda did this "SNL 50" thing to death over the last 9 months, they probably should give it a rest at this point. |
Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Sure I get that it was a celebration of 50 seasons so do they really need to do another one for 50 "years" too?
|
Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
They will do it again in 2035 for the 60th.

They'll have an anniversary special that's closer to the 59th anniversary than the 60th anniversary? I hope I'm still alive to see it and can still complain about it on DVDTalk.
50 was the last time they could still get cast from the 1970s present. BY 2035, it might be hard to even round up people from the 1980s. Sandler and that younger crew from the 1990s will all be 70. No Lorne, for sure. |

Chevy Chase is going to live to be like 112.

I totally stand by that
(Until I don't lol) |
Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
I think I will be around and close to the same age or one year older then the anniversary.
I witnessed SNL 40 and 50, NFL 75 and NFL 100, and possibly the Oscars 100 in a few years. |
Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Andrew Dismukes appeared in the most sketches this past season.
This year’s sketch leader according to Late Nighter was Andrew Dismukes. He appeared in 79 sketches this season, more than any other cast member, including last year’s leader, Heidi Gardner. She came in second, just ahead of Bowen Yang, James Austin Johnson, Sarah Sherman, and Ego Nwodim. For the stats-minded, again via Late Nighter, the bottom three cast members (excluding “Update” anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che) were Michael Longfellow, newcomer Jane Wickline, and Devon Walker, who trailed Wickline by six sketches. Walker, in particular, still seems to be searching for his groove. Longfellow and Wickline aren’t used as often, but when they are, they’re deployed skillfully, especially on “Update,” where they’ve both shone. |
Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
For some reason, Dismukes never makes much of an impression on me, so I'm surprised he's been in the most sketches this past season.

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Dismukes has a uniqiue last name but not a very memorable screen presence.
|
Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Dismukes is a utility player who doesn't really stand out; he's the guest at a wedding or one of the kids sitting in a desk at a high school class. Almost a set decoration or chair-filler.
|
Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Dismukes basically plays the straight man in most sketches - which is what Mikey Day often plays as well.

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Hey, remember when SNL had a joke about the all-steroid Olympics?
It took almost 40 years, but I guess it's real now? |
Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Ooo that can't be good for one's health

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Andrew Dismukes got married last weekend.

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
I will forever stand by my original position that if you watch SNL every week and do not know who the longtime cast members are, there is something wrong with you.
|
Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Fair enough. Though we may not agree with what it is there is definitely something wrong with me. :)

Do you just skip the intro every single week?
