He isn't, but here's the thumbnail for that episode

No Peacock, but I have all of the old shows on a hard drive, downloaded from archive.org.

Just checked this one and the title sequence opens with Don Pardo saying "It's Saturday Night Live... with Paul Simon and James Taylor! Starring Jane Curtin (et al)... and musical guest David Sanborn!"

Other episodes from that season open the same way. One later in the season opens "It's Saturday Night Live... with Burt Reynolds!"

So going by that metric, he and James Taylor were the hosts and David Sanborn was the musical guest.

I'll concede that seeing him as co-host with Taylor is valid, but they did not appear in the monologue slot.

968 episodes and how many have not had "the host" on stage after the credits (in the monologue slot) welcoming everyone to the show

Nevertheless, 4 or 5 times, at 82 he ain't getting to 10.

When I first saw the thumbnail above, for a second I thought Taylor was Harvey Pekar.

That wasn't quite my point, Dooks, though to be fair I don't always get all my thoughts into words properly; I often make analogies and comparisons without saying why I'm doing so.

Anyway, what I meant to say is that I thought Justin Timberlake had a decent shot at 10x, and the reason i brought up Paul Simon is that he had made the 5 Timers Club without hosting 5 times (honestly, his 4 times hosting is about 2 more than i thought he'd had) so I'd assumed that a MG appearance also factored in to entry into this mythical "club".

I don't actually know how many times Timberlake has hosted, done double duty, or just been the MG, but I gotta assume it's close to 10 at this point.

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread

According to IMDb

Justin Timberlake has done DD as host and MG three times. He has hosted with an MG two times. He has been a solo MG once. He was a MG as part of NSync once. And he has made four guest cameos.

The last time he hosted was in 2013, so IDK that he has much interest in doing that anymore.

Gonna go ahead and predict that Chappell Roan will be the first musical guest of the new season.

I hope not

Stop me if you heard this one before. But I'm gonna go on record with my prediction: The Linda Lindas as MG sometime in October, possibly November but October is more likely. Their new album drops in October and shows like Kimmel will definitely be having them on to promote. Plus, their tour with some guys called Green Day ends at the end of September. There's probably a Billie Joe Armstrong joke in there somewhere.

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread

So let's get this started here. Maya Rudolph has played Kamala Harris on SNL in cameo appearances since 2020. I'm certain Lorne would welcome her back to keep playing Harris (people love Rudolph way too much, imo) but Rudolph lives in LA, so unlike Baldwin dropping in as Trump, she can't just catch a cab to 30 Rock on Saturdays.

So what's the prediction?

None of the Black female cast members look anything like Harris. Is that a problem?

Completely out of left field, I would love to see them bring actress Noreen DeWulf on to do it.

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread

How many times did James Austin Johnson do a Biden bit last year? I don't think it was that many, and if they keep it around the same number, they could bring Maya out for them. Should Harris win the election, they'll probably limit the amount of times they skewer her anyway, so as not to bring up accusations of sexism or racism. The only reason they do so many Trump bits is that he just gives comedians material week after week. Plus, the fact that the impressions (especially Baldwin's) really got under his skin, only made them want to do it more. I can easily see the real Kamala Harris showing up on stage in the middle of a bit with Maya portraying her. Meaning, I don't think she'll be that offended by the bits the way Trump was.

But, if they do decide to have a current cast member player, it'll probably be Ego, even though the skin tone is different.

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread

If SNL was in season in June and July they would have had great Biden material to work with but Biden is probably happy he got out just in time before SNL could skewer him.

I don't think she has been relevant since the aughts and probably not getting any acting gigs since the 2010's began.

IMDb is a thing that exists.

My mind is blown as I saw her open up for some random teen in a tiny club in RI about 6 years back and her voice is amazing. She crushed a Cranberries song with vocals on par with Delores around the time we lost her. I find her social media awkward as a 53-year-old male but my kids who I took to see her are amazed at her success.

I checked and that whole first page of recent credits are shows and movies 90% of people would not recognize or ever heard of.

She's not getting any acting jobs, and she's not getting any high-profile acting jobs, which are two different things.

I had to go to IMDb to find out if I know her and don’t. Other than Anger Management the terrible Sheen show what’s she ever done.
That’s about as random a name you could have come up with.

I actually thought of it because in a Politics thread, there were ongoing posts about Chuck and SNL. She's been in lots of things I've seen.

But, while she is not famous, she is a primarily comic actress, who has been working for the past 20 years, and she looks more like Kamala Harris than anyone on SNL.

Sure but I doubt SNL will bring on someone no one ever heard of for such a prominent role.

Me, too.

Not a prediction, just something I'd like to see. This can be my Linda Lindas.

My questioning was whether she would want to fly across the country to do it.

Tyler Labine is the obvious choice for JD Vance.

If Molly Kearney is still in the cast, they will have her do it.

Maybe TV and movie aficionados know him but the rest of America will have no idea.

Mikey Day does not really look like him but probably could find the vibe of the character or essence.

The way things are going, they better have somebody to play the guy that replaces Vance.
