I am still pissed Depeche Mode released a new album in 2023 and it came during SNL season last Spring and they never got a chance to perform.

Not a fan or a hater but how come Beyonce with the new country album did not perform on SNL this year?

I know Taylor Swift is Prince now and never performs on TV anymore so that is out of the question.

Yes. It's mostly a lot of very popular, top selling acts. Wish it wasn't, but here we are. But there's also a handful of "buzz" bands, bands that are up and coming, getting critical notice if not a lot of airplay. Recent performances by Maneskin, Japanese Breakfast, and boygenius come to mind. That's the niche I see the LLs, and their inclusion on big worldwide tours with very famous acts indicates they're on the rise, and it would be cool if Lorne would have them on now, and not after they blow up.

When Japanese Breakfast appeared on SNL, the band had already been nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy.

boygenius is considered an indie super-group that by the time they appeared on SNL had a hit album and won 3 Grammy awards.

Maneskin got their Best New Artist Grammy nomination after appearing on SNL, but were a European sensation that had already sold millions of albums and had many hits.

Now explain to me how your precious Linda Lindas are comparable to these acts. Because their Wikipedia page neglects to mention them ever being nominated for a Grammy or having any hits.

I bet this artist will appear on SNL in the 2024-25 season if they want to get the latest act in pop and be pissed somebody more deserving should have gotten on the show instead.

The SNL 50th anniversary special will be on February 16th, 2025. Once again, they're doing it around 8 months before the actual anniversary date.

My nine months before the special prediction is that it will suck.

If Lorne Michael’s is going to quit and hand it over to someone else when the show turns 50 I’m all for celebrating the 50th anniversary tomorrow.

I mean you'd want to do it during the show's 50th season, instead of at the start of season 51. Especially if Lorne anticipates stepping down after 50. And though Sweeps don't exist any more, between the Super Bowl, the Grammys and the NBA All-Star weekend, February is the biggest month for event TV programming, so it makes sense.

Maybe they need to do it in advance to get as many stars on the show with a open schedule.

I forgot was the 40th anniversary live or was it pre-taped and aired at a later date?

It's a small world story to share. My daughter was in Provincetown MA with her friends and their mom over the weekend and as they were walking around my daughter spotted Kate Micinnon. None of her friends knew who she was which was a bit sad and surprising. The photo she sent was a live photo and Kate was making that face for the entire time so I get the impression she is 'always on"

They didn't know who she was? or they did not recognize her? Because setting aside the SNL of it all, they all saw the Barbie movie, right?

That is cool.

SNL lost something when Kate McKinnon left the show and she was like Will Ferrell the star of the cast in the 2010's and early 2020's.

Ryan Reynolds will not be hosting SNL unless Colin Jost leaves maybe?

Ryan Reynolds has only hosted Saturday Night Live once, 15 years ago – and he is in no hurry to change that. An insider exclusively reveals to In Touch that by Ryan not hosting the famous sketch comedy show, it avoids an awkward encounter with his ex-wife Scarlett Johansson’s current husband Colin Jost.

“I’d say pride is the big reason Ryan has steered clear of hosting SNL for so many years. The one time he hosted a decade and a half ago he was surrounded by a cast that were true peers of his, in the Kristen Wiig/Bill Hader/Fred Armisen era, and now the show is fronted by a cast that includes actors twenty years younger than him,” the source says

The insider continues, “Even for a guy with Ryan's youthful energy, that's a little too far outside his comfort zone. But there's also the Colin Jost factor. It's no secret in Hollywood that Colin wields an enormous amount of influence behind the scenes of that show, beyond just being a high-powered writer, senior cast member and Update coanchor. Colin is angling to eventually run the whole thing when that opportunity presents itself.”

Plus, the source adds that “Scarlett is a regular presence at the show's wrap parties and through her once-in-a-while surprise cameos. It's territory in the show business landscape that Ryan has basically surrendered to them as a power couple.”

On top of that, the insider says that Ryan, 47, “has a pretty big ego about his own comedy writing chops,” and he wants things “to happen on his own terms and not somebody else's and especially not Scarlett and Colin's."

Ryan and Scarlett, 39, first began dating in 2007, shortly after the Deadpool star split from his then-fiancée Alanis Morissette. People reported that the couple was engaged in May 2008.

What does any of that even mean?
He won’t host because of Colin Jost and Johanson?

How does that article make any sense?

Somebody realized that Reynolds' ex-wife was ScarJo, and made up a story spun from that fact.
