Re: The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu) -- Season 3 and beyond Thread
There are a couple of ways this season can go down... but I do find it frustrating that:
1. They're trying to make Aunt Lydia a sympathetic figure -- no way!
2. There would be a contingent that would want Gilead in Canada AND that the government is allowing it
3. The funeral was globally broadcast... that's like letting Putin broadcast his pro-war rhetoric around the world

^Agree with all 3 points.
If you're caught up, now, what I was referring to is that...

We caught up last night and that was an excellent episode 6 --- albeit I saw it coming. Still intense.
And your prediction was spot on!

The show may have jumped the shark for me, with Serena and June now helping one another out. Just so out of character. These two despise each other, they want each other dead

My prediction was correct, but its resolution was not what I would have guessed. As it went along, it was fairly predictable, though.

Episode 7 was pretty good. Agree with Osiris that this isn't the partnership I expected or wanted. If the should had any balls left, June would have walked off with that baby and made a swap for her daughter (but I don't think Serena has any clout left anyhow). Now I foresee June being an advocate for Serena and them joining forces to take down Gilead.

OK season. Though they really forced the June/Serena bonding.
Good that they will conclude it with the next season (6).

That wasn't the season finale I was expecting. I was really hoping for some "wins" for June... instead it's more of the same depressing oppression and nonsense in Canada. I really, really hope Gilead gets wiped off the planet next season.

Shit. I had no idea that was the season finale.
The Canadian stuff has been pissing me off. I keep thinking how we would never be acting the way that they are, but then I realize, there are some people that probably would act that way.
The legal stuff is also somewhat suspect.
I suppose I can't really compare what we have now to the timeline in the series, as obviously they diverged, at some point, to create Gilead.
Bring on the final season! Feels like it's going to be a long wait.

For any other weirdos that are into finding filming locations, this is where they shot the final train scene: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.8985.../data=!3m1!1e3
If you follow the train tracks, back for a short distance, you'll see the building they used for the train station (The large building with Robin Hood Flour on the side). https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9102.../data=!3m1!1e3
It's the same building they used for some exterior shots, last season. Pretty funny that it is nowhere near the entrance to the train station, where they were going down the escalator.
Next to the building is an area where we sometimes go dirt biking. You can see trails running all over the place.

While Im excited to see how they wrap this up (and hope they stick the landing) I wonder if anyone cares anymore. It's just been too long and there is so much other content out there.
I don't know anybody that even still talks about this and honestly I wouldn't have it on my own radar if I didn't check in at this forum now and then. Hopefully there are still enough fans out there that watch it to justify them releasing it on DVD so I can at least complete my series collection. Though its probably not a show I will want to go back and rewatch again anytime soon.

Two and a half years between seasons is way too long, but I think most people who started the show and watched until now, are excited to see the final season. Of course it's not on everybodies mind all the time, but I'm sure people will show up in April. Severance was on hiatus for nearly that long and people are watching it.

Finally caught up on this season just in time for the finale next week. I've actually enjoyed this one more than some of the later seasons.

It's been good, but frustrating in a few spots.
Tough scene, last night!

I liked on the post-show how they described the last scene as "Lawrence boarded the plane a hero, and Nick boarded it a coward."
I was wondering how they'd end the little love triangle. I guess we got our answer

Always been on my “some day” list … I didn’t even know there were still new seasons coming out. For some reason, I thought this was a 2-and-done.
Not a big fan of the lead actress, but have been intrigued by the concept since it came out. May be a summer watch for me.

Even though I gave up mid season 3 and have no intentions of suffering through the whole thing I'll probably pair the last two episodes as an evening after they come out. My issues were never with the quality of the show just that it's aptly called sorrow porn and that's not something I'm into particularly without an end in sight.

I think the series ran into the problem of it seemed to be spinning its wheels. Like, yeah, how much sorrow porn can you endure without anything getting better? I'm not saying I haven't enjoyed the show, but it seemed like some of the middle seasons were just filling time before the inevitable rebellion in the final season (Not really a spoiler since I think everyone knew that would be the endgame of the series). Plus it just felt like it took forever for each season to come out, which I'm sure didn't help keep up the momentum of the earlier seasons, as evident by the drop-off in activity here.
Oh, and it probably didn't help that it turned into a documentary rather than a warning in recent years.

Maybe some loved the finale but for me it was very frustrating without any sense of closure. Nothing really seemed to reach its conclusion.
Now I'm seeing in interviews this morning they are working on a new series that will be based on the sequel book by Margaret Atwood, 'The Testaments'. So I guess that is why nothing really wrapped up so they could continue on stretching out the misery for anyone who still cares to tune in. I wish I had known this was in the works because I probably would have bailed earlier but this show hasn't been on my radar much and I haven't been following any news about it.
In any case, at least it's over. Elizabeth Moss (who most people seem to love or hate) appears to be moving into more of a directing role and Yvonne Stahovski who was so good in many moments throughout this show might get to go on to bigger and better roles which probably should have happened 10 years ago after 'Chuck' while she was in her prime. And it was always fun to see Aunt Lydia/Ann Dowd chew the scenery at her bitchiest. Overall, the show had some great episodes and Season 1 to 3 were amazing. Looking back tho, I'd probably only give this series a B-/C+
