The Expanse (Amazon) -- Season 5 -- Premieres 12/16/20

Re: The Expanse (Amazon) -- Season 5 -- Premieres 12/16/20
I guess it followed the books but this season just seemed to be spinning its wheels. They could have easily told the same story in 4 episodes and not really lose anything in the translation. Hopefully something actually happens next year.

I can't speak for the books but this show has mastered filming space battles. Much more engaging and fun to watch compared to colorful space lasers flying everywhere.

Re: The Expanse (Amazon) -- Season 5 -- Premieres 12/16/20
I liked this season.
IIUC, it had been planned as an RPG, before it got made into a book series. The board game came out after the first or second seasons of the show. (I played the boardgame before I started watching the show - it's a reasonably good area control strategy game. That said, from what I remember of it, it was more a game designed around the universe of Expanse than around the story of the series.).

I'm only halfway through this season, and I'm really enjoying it and don't at all understand the negative views here in this thread.
I guess it could get worse, but right now, it still smokes most other Sci Fi shows, like Battlestar Galactica.

For myself, while I really like the show I felt that the Naomi storyline just dragged out forever and I just did not care what was happening by the end of it.

I think this last season was better than the one before it and ended on a note that seemed interesting but overall the Naomi stuff was less than stellar and it was not as compelling as the first couple seasons. I have not read the books so not sure what got left off of the screen but I just wanted more. The space battles are indeed epic especially this season but seeing Naomi making a hash mark on the screen to track her trips in to work on dismantling the bomb or whatever got tedious. I enjoyed Clarissa a bit but the season did not feel like it covered a lot of ground. I will take BSG any day over a rewatch of this season or last.

Re: The Expanse (Amazon) -- Season 5 -- Premieres 12/16/20
Finally finished up the season. I think on the whole it was better than the last.
I did think it was building to something bigger, otherwise splitting up the group didn’t make a lot of sense. Heck, as much as I liked Amos and Peaches road trip, I wasn’t entirely sure why he went back to begin with. I also kept thinking there was going to be a showdown with his old friend.
I agree the entire Naomi plot was boring. She pretty much spent the entire season crying and whining.
If Drummer was screwed by the actions against the “friendly” ships, why not just go with Holden?
Really unfortunate that we lost both Fred and Alex this season. I wasn’t familiar with all the details of the actors alleged actions, so I was a bit surprised to see him written off. Curious how much they have to change things from the books So close to the end.

Re: The Expanse (Amazon) -- Season 5 -- Premieres 12/16/20
We finally got through this. Felt like the story meandered a bit, especially the Marco Inaros stuff. But once Naomi made the jump to the other ship and started trying to hack the systems, that whole bit from start to finish was one of the most intense story arcs I've seen in a long time. I was even starting to feel a bit claustrophobic when she was having to hold her breath so much.
I hate that we have to lose Alex, but we have to start showing people that there are consequences for their actions.
But I think the interaction between Holden and Bull was good, so maybe we'll have Bull, Peaches* and Bobbie as part of the crew next year.
* I was also confused about Clarissa/Peaches at first and why she was important. But she turned out to be an interesting character so that's good.
Now, to find some nice used copies of the books to read!

Just a little over a week until season 6!
The Expanse is one of the best things going right now. This last season is going to be awesome.

For those Non-Primes: Looks like the last episode is Jan 14. So if you subscribe on December 15, you should be able to watch the entire season in a month and only have to wait 5 days from the premiere. I believe there is a cheaper non-prime video only monthly subscription.
Edit: It is $8.99 a month. Go to Signup page and Change plan.

Amazon usually puts their Friday releases up Thursday at 7pm EST. Not sure what to watch first, The Expanse or The Wheel of Time! Going to be some great TV tonight!
