Started this today just to check it out. Almost gave up five minutes in, but stuck it out and am loving it thru episode 10 at least. Very much a Trek show.

This is a great show. Anyone who's dismissed it because it's a "kid's show" is really missing out. It's an easy half hour watch for each episode, but they really make the most of each one. They've got a lot of great technology, alien, ship, and planet designs. There's character growth. Probably one of the best temporal anomaly episodes ("Time Amok") I've seen on any Trek.

There are real stakes and real danger in the episodes. They've been facing off against Borg, Romulans, Xindi, Ferengi, and time-traveling aliens and cyborgs. Appearance by Janeway, Chakotay, and others.

So, non spoiler stuff but...They faced off with an inactive Borg cube a few eps ago. People are saying that cube is the same cube from Picard; and that the crew of the Protostar may have set that cube on the path to how it ended up in Picard

Just finished off the remaining episodes. Good stuff. Ingenuous way to get rid of the threat. So does Janeway go into the wormhole with the new crew to find Chakotay?

Yes. And since we are dealing with Time Travel lotsa crazy shit is gonna go down. Remember Chakotay is 52 years in the future.

And the speculation that has folks excited:
Spoiler:
....and this comes from the teaser at the end when Janeway said, "I have has bigger plans..." when they asked if the new ship was their ship.. it won't be on the new Protostar Class ship but on a new Voyager ship with some familiar faces

Some evidence that the speculation may be on track....
Spoiler:

‘Prodigy’ Finale Teased Big ‘Star Trek: Voyager’ Connection Coming In Season 2

It’s the USS Voyager-A

Co-creators Dan and Kevin Hageman know they have created a bit of a mystery. In their post-finale Ready Room interview, Dan teased, “Admiral Janeway has promised them a new ship, but not the Protostar. So I think that is something fans can speculate.” And Kevin added,”Something much bigger.” Even without a definitive answer, there are some clues regarding the ship, the biggest of which comes about midway through the finale when the kids crash-land in San Francisco Bay. The rescue shuttles that come to save them have the designation NCC-74656-A. Janeway’s original USS Voyager had the designation NCC-74656, so these shuttles clearly came from a successor ship: the USS Voyager-A.

I’m really enjoying this show, one of the few shows I can watch with the kiddos. TOS, TNG and Voyager characters appear with original actors as voices. Love it! 5 more episodes to go!

Re: Star Trek: Prodigy -- Nickelodeon animated series coming in 2021

I started watching my BD set of this show and three episodes in I am having a hard time getting into this show. My main gripe is Dal R'El (had to Google his name). He's so obnoxious and I feel the show would be vastly improved by his absence. I like the other characters just fine but Dal kills every scene he's in. Does this get better, or is Dal hopefully written out?

He is the main character, so no

He does get slightly less annoying as it goes along though.

I should have known it was too much to hope. He's such a terrible character. I keep hoping he's randomly thrown out the airlock and forgotten.

Dude, without spoiling things...he grows a lot during season 1.. Most of the Trek Podcasts I listen too hated him just like you do, but by the series finale, all loved or liked him a lot.

I mean for fuck's sake, he's a kid. He, like the others, are on a path. If you felt he was annoying... then the writers did their job.

The others are kids too, and any one of them would have made for a far more compelling lead.

If you're only 3 episodes in, they really haven't settled into their roles and group dynamics yet. They all have decent arcs over the season, and Dal has his own issues that he needs to face and grow from.

I didn't really care for Rok in the beginning, but once she found her purpose, she really grew on me a lot.

And the series itself is also an animated series aimed at children despite all of the Trek deep cuts. Dal is a lead that kids can probably relate to on some level, whereas middle aged men will find him annoying. We aren't the target audience.

I've liked plenty of kids shows as an adult (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Fairly Odd Parents, Legend of Korra, etc) so it's not that. It's simply that particular character. If not for him, I'd be well into the first season by now. He kills this show for me, despite loving ST and really liking the other characters.

I mean TNG had the Wesley factor but, try as the writers might, even he couldn't ruin that show.

I was going to skip this but this thread convinced me to watch. Just finished and really enjoyed it. Janeway brings a lot to it, and I'm ready for season 2.

Re: Star Trek: Prodigy -- Nickelodeon animated series coming in 2021

Just finished this...this was great. Can't wait for Season 2. And for those who are on the fence, yes it starts a little slow, really mostly intro to the new characters but it really gets going after a couple of episodes. The last couple of episodes were stellar! Must watch for TNG/Voyager fans

And great interview with Kate Mulgrew in post finale Ready Room

I know I'll go back to this show eventually (I may as well since I purchased the Blu-ray set based on all the praise here), but for now it's not a priority. I do hope my opinion improves over time, however.

Season 2 was apparently completed and the article says CBS studios will complete post production and try to find a buyer.

Am I reading that right? They're completing season two, but aren't going to stream it?
