Re: Comic-Con at Home 2020 -- 7/22 to 7/26 (Panels and Schedules)

Bump

This starts tomorrow.

It will be all day tomorrow and will be streamed live on the Comic Con YouTube page.

I know most of you guys have work, so I don't expect many of you to have the time to watch these or participate. But for all of you who don't live in CA and have never been to Comic Con, the 1st ever free edition is finally here.

It's Wednesday through Sunday. There's over 350 panels scheduled

I'm watching the Superstore panel now. It's free, can't complain haha

I do miss comic conventions in general (I usually go to local ones and never been to SDCC). It's always fun to meet celebs. With regards to Superstore, I've only met Kaliko Kauahi (Sandra) in-person. Met her at random at the Seattle Space Needle in 2017.

I'm currently 1 of 36 people watching

Waiting for the Blacklist panel next.

This moderator from the Blacklist panel isn't great - Philiana Ng (senior editor, Entertainment Tonight). Not a great energetic, speaking voice.

Lauren Ash (Dina) did a great job moderating the Superstore panel.

EDIT - got bored of the Blacklist panel. Not much cast participating. Boring.

Re: Comic-Con at Home 2020 -- 7/22 to 7/26 (Panels and Schedules)

I finished the Star Trek panel. It was decent. They talked to the cast of Discovery, Lower Decks and then Picard. The Discovery cast did a table read of the 1st act of the season 2 finale. They actually edited in story boards and animations and had music to go along with it. It was pretty cool.

I know some people here hate the idea of Lower Decks, but it looks fun and the cast and EP seemed to have a good time talking about it. Jerry O'Connell is actually one of the voice actors on Lower Decks.

Next up, I'm going to try to watch The Boys panel maybe tomorrow.

There's like 4 or 5 panels on Friday that I'd like to watch.

Nothing DC in this because they have their own event on August 22nd.

I've only been able to watch one panel so far, The New Mutants Panel w/ Director & Cast. It was fun, though a bit short.

Since these are all pre-recorded, I'll probably go through the schedule soon and just bookmark all the panels I want to watch later.

Wow. The Moderator for the Blacklist panel was horrible. She definitely doesn’t have the personality to do interviews.

The Walking Dead World Beyond panel was pretty good. They talked to pretty much all the principal players. Hardwick from Talking Dead was the moderator. Some good back and forth. The two lead female actresses were cool and likable.

The teaser for the season was interesting.

Wow, the New Mutants panel was awesome. Short and sweet. The cast and Boone were very funny and had great personalities. I also liked how they poked fun at all the delays.

There's also a Warner Bros. Bugs Bunny panel to promote the new 80th anniversary Blu-Ray. Yvette Nicole Brown was the moderator. I watched some of it and it's pretty good. The guys who voice Bugs were great with their Bugs' intros. I didn't realize the new Bugs was Asian.

Enjoyed the interview with Charlize Theron, even though it was a bit repetitive.

Currently trying to watch the Junji Ito Q&A but the Moderator is rough.

I finished watching the Bugs Bunny 80th anniversary panel today. It was decent. It got a little dry towards the end. But, I liked how they added old clips from Bugs cartoons in the middle of the program, which was cool.

I watched The Boys and Bill and Ted Face the Music panels last night. Both were pretty entertaining. Bill and Ted's panel actually was creative with some post production work in it. Animations and video.

They did announce the renewal of The Boys during their panel.

I watched some of the Family Guy panel. I'm not a fan of table reads, so I fast forwarded through that. The rest of the panel was ok. Somewhat enjoyable.

The neXT panel was pretty good. They talked about how they were the first show that had to shut down prior to the pandemic. One of their crew got sick and she thought it was just a flu. Manny Coto, the EP and show runner, said luckily no one else got sick.

I like John Slattery and I’m intrigued by this. They basically said it’s a tech thriller.

Re: Comic-Con at Home 2020 -- 7/22 to 7/26 (Panels and Schedules)

Alright I may watch a couple more panels and call it a day.

Overall, it was okay. I'd give the whole experience a C+

I think what hurt it somewhat was that the panels were all pre-recorded. And you can only do so much with Zoom calls.

I know most of you guys here probably didn't bother watching it because the idea of watching all these 1+ hour panels as Zoom calls probably sounded dull and you didn't want to waste your weekend on YouTube all day. The topics for many of the panels were quite dry. I noticed the ones that didn't promote movies or TV shows had very low view numbers.

But, considering Comic Con was cancelled and many can't get tickets to it, this was a decent alternative.

There were many panels that had less than 1,000 views. Those were the educational focused ones or instructional based that didn't really even promote shows or movies or comics specifically.

It really depends on what shows or movies you're interested in.

The panels are all here:

https://www.youtube.com/user/ComicCon

They range anywhere from 40 minutes to 1 hour plus. There's close to 400+ panels to watch.

I don't recommend watching any of the Wednesday ones as those were educational or instruction based.

It's hard to complain when it's free. So while some of the panels aren't that great, I won't be too harsh on the reviews.I appreciate what SDCC did for the fans in this terrible year.

Re: Comic-Con at Home 2020 -- 7/22 to 7/26 (Panels and Schedules)

https://variety.com/2020/film/news/c...ts-1234717509/

Variety did a write up today and said in their opinion that Comic Con at home was a bust.

They mention that no one was really talking about the panels, the lack of interactivity since it was all pre-recorded. Social media interaction was apparently down 95% from 2019.

One comment said that the last thing he wanted to watch was more stuff on Zoom calls since many work on Zoom from home already and he also said the lack of interactivity also hurt.

Comic Con shut off all the comments sections on the panels and the like/dislike button.

While it was just okay for me. I was impressed how fast they put this together considering the original Con was cancelled and the fact they offered all this content for free. They're being a little unfair with some of the criticisms. I know most simply don't have the time to watch all these 1 hour panels over a weekend and I know the format of it being all Zoom calls doesn't appeal to many. But considering how quickly they put this event together as an experiment, it for the most part IMO was a success. Hopefully the real thing will happen in 2021.

The one thing I thought sucked was the virtual hall to buy merchandise. It was clunky as hell and the links weren't clear at all where you could buy stuff. Funko apparently had a disaster with their SDCC sale as the website was overwhelmed.
