Re: Best Fantasy TV Series of All Time
The Fate/Stay franchise in anime has a checkered history because of all the reboots and spin-offs. It's a monster multi-media property in Japan, with huge sales across multiple platforms. Think Game of Thrones-level popularity on a broader scale.
Most would recommend Fate / Zero as the best, most coherent spin-off.

I love Over the Garden Wall but as a miniseries I don't think it fits as best TV series of all time. Castlevania & the new She-Ra series are better IMO than 95% of the shows in the poll but I still got to go with Game of Thrones even with the rushed last season.

It has to be Game of Thrones. No matter what you think of the final season, the showThis.
became one of the most imaginative and influential shows in the current TV landscape. You couldn't make this kind of show 20 to 30 years ago. It was literally a feature film every single week.
At least in the last 10 years, it's my favorite fantasy show.

GoT is really the only grand scale high fantasy that's come to TV so it's the clear choice, IMO. But it's not really a fair comparison considering the production money it had, especially after the first season (not to mention the story already being established years prior). Maybe The Witcher but it's far too early to say. That being said, I will never watch GoT through a 2nd time after how they ended it.
Berzerk would be a contender it if weren't for the demon aspects at the very beginning and ending. Everything in between was high quality fantasy.

I would put Once Upon A Time above half the shows on the poll. Buffy's modern world setting keeps me from labelling it as Best Fantasy Show. Maybe Best Show With Fantasy Elements. Xena was hugely fun to watch and I'll probably re-visit the DVD's soon. I like Madoka Magica but as far as fantasy cartoons are concerned my all-time favorite is Conan the Adventurer (Needle want pomegranate!). Game of Thrones, however, is the obvious answer.

I could never stomach Buffy. All of that patented Joss Whedon cutesie-poo dialog was a massive turn-off. I tried to revisit the show several times throughout the last two decades, to no avail. To me it's unwatchable. The only Whedon show I really liked was Firefly. I was OK with Dollhouse; it had its issues but I think it could have vastly improved over time.

Shit I forgot about Adventure Time. That should definitely be on this list. That would be my number 2 just barely behind GOT.

One show I did completely forget about is Gargoyles.

Game of Thrones is the obvious winner, IMHO, but I think I'll go for a wildcard and vote for Carnivale. LOVED that show and I'll be forever saddened that it never got a proper conclusion.

Re: Best Fantasy TV Series of All Time
Probably should clarify that:
1997 anime series is awesome. I understand the trepidation with the beginning and ending, but the whole series is basically like that (so if you don't like those heavy fantasy elements then don't read the manga). I don't think this is even available to stream or buy any more.
2012 film series is ok. The first two basically retell what the anime covered.
The 2016 series is horrid, the CGI is terrible, though it does at least tell a different part of the story.

Re: Best Fantasy TV Series of All Time
Proper fantasy was always a very niche and nerdy category which is why there isn't much to compare it to. It brought the category into the mainstream and deserves the credit; regardless of the dumpster fire it became once it passed the source material. The Witcher never gets made with GoT.
