You are also insane to think people don't sub for a year.

I've subscribed to Netflix for years, and can't see cancelling anytime soon.

I've subscribed to Hulu for quite a while and, having realized how little I watch it, am about to drop it.

I've subscribed to Disney Plus since Christmas break, and I find I'm not watching it much. Really should start a Simpsons marathon. if that doesn't work, it's gone until after S2 of Mandolorian ends.

And of course, I dropped HBO within a week of Game of Thrones ending. Like Lost, the finale took any thoughts of a rewatch off the table.

Hulu has had a lot of good content lately and I subscribe to the Spotify/Hulu bundle so its pretty inexpensive. Neflix is a stable. HBO has a lot of good stuff other than GOT, Perry Mason recently was superb. I still have cable and getting all the Premiums is actually less expensive than some straight TV packages when bundled./

We've had Hulu and Netflix non-stop for years (we started Netflix with the mail in disc thing back in the day).
We don't have a problem keeping those on because they have a such a variety. But stuff like Disney+ and CBS All Access feel so much more narrow, it's far easier to understand only doing those for a month or so to watch certain things.

I honestly hate the idea of these specific streaming services. We cut the cord on cable nearly 13 years ago because we hated paying so much for so little. We didn't want the sports channels or most of the news channels and certainly not the shopping channels. The promise of streaming channels was they were supposed to be aggregators so you could have everything in one place. I can see a couple of companies like Netflix existing, but these specific ones like CBS or the Criterion Channel, it's just silly to have such a narrow focus.
