Ray Donovan (Showtime) -- Season 7

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...12c9313c8e.jpg

Season seven of RAY DONOVAN finds Ray (Liev Schreiber in his three-time Emmy nominated and five-time Golden Globe nominated role) working to be the man his family needs him to be. While he makes progress with Dr. Amiot (five-time Emmy and Golden Globe winner Alan Alda), there are dangers from the past that require the Ray Donovan of old. Between NYC mayor Ed Feratti (Zach Grenier), an unrelenting NYPD officer hunting for the truth and clients old and new, Ray struggles to find the balance between fixing for clients and fixing himself. And when Feratti's corruption brings a piece of Mickey's past (Jon Voight, in his Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe-winning role) back to New York, Ray is forced to seek answers to long-buried questions. Meanwhile, Bunchy (Dash Mihok), hoping for a fresh start, bunks in Ray's apartment and works stocking shelves at a pharmacy. Terry (Eddie Marsan) is offered a new, unconventional healing opportunity. Daryll (Pooch Hall) struggles to figure out where he fits into the Donovan clan. Bridget (Kerris Dorsey) and Smitty (Graham Rogers) face the realities of married life. A SHOWTIME production, RAY DONOVAN is executive produced by David Hollander, Mark Gordon, Bryan Zuriff and Lou Fusaro, and was created by Ann Biderman.

2 weeks have aired, including a new episode last night.

You'd think that Ray (or whomever did it) would be smart enough to add some cinder blocks or something to keep the bags weighted down. Or would a fishing line still be strong enough to pull up something like that?

I can't see how Mickey surived that explosion. The way they made it look, it seemed like it would be visible from space. Maybe it it mostly went upward and not outward?

I feel like something bad is going to happen to Lena.

There is no way Mickey died from that, at least that's my prediction. In a real life explosion? For sure. But there is too much foreshadowing for them to just write him out like this.

I guess no one has watched the second episode yet.

Spoiler:
They telegraphed Mickey's survival a mile away by showing the problem with the door at the back of the bus. Very predictable. Although I thought they'd ride out the fake death for a few episodes before the reveal.

Yes, I did watch episode 2, but I still couldn't understand how it was plausible given the size of the explosion.

and nobody did a body count on on the bus? Wouldn't they be missing one body or remains?

Yeah, that was pretty obvious. Even at the beginning of the 2nd episode. No way Mickey would go out like that.

Yea, I thought that as well. A body-count is very important - especially when we're talking about convicts. They should want to know if any of them survived the explosion and escaped.
Unless that's something that will be found out in the next episode.

Season finale today. Anyone around??

Anyway, I thought this season was great and one of the best in awhile. The flashbacks the last few episodes really added to the story.

Showtime bosses said the other day the show is nearing the end, so expect season 8 to be the last.

Overall this season was about on par with the last one, with Smitty being the most annoying and useless character this time around.

Still had a lot of things unresolved, such as Feratti, the police homicides, and even more bodies put into the ground. Also, waiting on whether they are gonna campaign for the worst "Scumbag Father Ever" between Mickey and Frank before these Showtime series wraps up.

Was that the season or series final?

Re: Ray Donovan (Showtime) -- Season 7

I thought it was a decent season.

In case some aren't caught up:

Spoiler:
I figured Smitty was as good as dead this season... and when this episode was nearing its end - it was guaranteed. Pretty cruel how everyone just left Smitty there to die.

I wonder if they planned to reveal the reason for Bridget's suicide all along, or if that was something they created more recently.

I was hoping Terry would off himself, but I guess he just went up the Empire State building to check out the view? I like the Terry character, but he has the absolute worst story lines. They really don't know what to do with him. It just drags the story down.

They should really end it next season. There's very little room to move and it's time to wrap it up.

Ray already knew his sister was pregnant when she killed herself. He mentioned it in season 1.

Really? I don't remember that... and he sure looked surprised in this episode - or did I miss a piece of dialog in this episode that showed he already knew?

Wasn't Ray shot in the opening sequence in the Forest?

This is from season1, episode 8:

Bridget: Am I in trouble, daddy?
Ray: Not with me.
Bridget: Are you drunk?
Ray: A little.
Bridget: Why?
Ray: It's your Auntie Bridget's birthday, and my brothers and I, we like to raise a glass to her every year we're together.
Bridget: That's beautiful.
Ray: Remember when I told you that she killed herself? I didn't tell you why. She was pregnant. And she was on drugs.

Yowza. Definitely don't remember that.

I guess they found out from the autopsy? Because the flashbacks don't show anyone telling him that she was pregnant.
And Ray didn't wonder who the father was? Or didn't piece it together that it was Sullivan based on Bridgette's attitude towards working there had changed?
Or was it that Ray kinda knew all along and just let it be - adding to his guilt for years?

windom 01-20-20 01:02 PM

Re: Ray Donovan (Showtime) -- Season 7

Or the writers just completely forgot about, or just decided to ignore it. Maybe Ray didn't know she was pregnant but was just trying to scare his daughter.

I liked this show better when it was about Ray being a fixer and not so heavy on the family drama. One more season sounds right.

I thought he faked being shot so the gunman would come close enough for Ray to shoot him?

^ I've always been annoyed by how fake any scene in a car looks on this show.

So Ray faked being shot and dropped to the ground on his stomach in the hopes the assassin would walk up to him, flip him onto his back - so Ray could get a nice close shot?
Why did he assume the assassin wouldn't take a couple of insurance shots while Ray was lying on his stomach (the same way Ray did to the assassin)? And why would the assassin turn him over in the first place? Did he really need to see who he "killed"? It's a really illogical scene.

I re-watched the scene where Ray's chick played the tape to him and she definitely asked him if he knew Bridget was pregnant... and he definitely shook his head no. The writers definitely fucked up.

Dammit. I was really hoping for one more season to wrap things up. They gave Shameless another season but not this?

Ultimately, I think the move to New York hurt the show. Ray should have stayed in California. It was ridiculous how his whole family basically made the move with him.
