Google play has Disney Plus available to download. Chromecast button was on the app, so no problems casting it to my TV.

The carbonite technology certainly has improved over the last decade when we first saw it on Bespin. Did like the banter between the IG88 looking robot and Mandalorian, kind of disappointing we won't see more of that. The Baby Yoda was surprising but I don't know if I want to see the Mandalorian protecting it the entire season so I guess we'll see where it goes.

I did, too. The show pulled that device where it's super not-funny, overly-dramatic, so as soon as there's even a little levity, we're hungry to laugh, so it comes off as especially funny. It worked.

I don't think they'll go this route, but...

I think it would be cool if IG was a collective droid intelligence with disposable units (IG-88, IG-89, etc.). Whenever a unit checks in, it adds its experiences to the collective. Whenever other units go out to recover a disabled unit, it's able to download its experience. The self-destruct mechanism is created to happen in such a way they can still to cover the data. Thus, the Mandalorian keeps encountering IG units that remember their last dealings together because the collective retrieves the data and thus any time the Mandalorian crosses them, creating more and more of an antagonist relationship and less partnership over time.

There could be an episode where he convinces an IG unit sent to kill him that they got the experience data wrong, let's work together again. Or another where he so thoroughly double-crossed the IG unit he has to shred the unit so it can't be recovered. Maybe eventually the IG collective is so over-the-top enraged with him after enough of this one just barrels down on him, blasting away without a word. Then, he captures it, reprograms it, gives it it's own autonomy, and becomes an actual ally.

This would be like crossing the Borg from Star Trek and the T-800 in T2 with Murdock from MacGuyver.

Anyone else getting forced subs through the top of the screen at the beginning? The real subs are at the bottom but I’m betting what looks like Polish at the top even though I’m set to off on my Roku. Pretty damn annoying.

I think that's how IG-88 worked in the old EU; there were several of them designated IG-88A, IG-88B, etc. I'm not sure if that's still canon in Disney's iteration. (In the old EU Bounty Hunter anthology, one of the IG-88 droids attempted to take over the second Death Star).

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they carried this idea over to The Mandalorian's IG-11.

I wonder if baby Yoda means they're going to explore Yoda's species. That was something that George Lucas wouldn't let the comics and novels explore back in the EU days.

There's long been a fan theory that Yoda's species were the Whills. I always sort of liked the idea that the Whills were a nearly extinct species that passed into legend, but still operated in secret for thousands of years. If their lifespan reaches nearly a thousand years, then that's actually quite possible.

Wasn’t really expecting it but still glad it’s not Boba Fett. Thought the Mandalorian enclave was cool and can’t wait to see more of it.

This was such a strange experience seeing live action Star Wars that doesn’t use the big orchestral scores or giant set pieces. Unique but welcome.

I liked the first episode. Had kind of an old western feel to it for me, reminded me of the Lone Ranger.

What's funny is that the orchestral theme in this reminded me of Survivor's "Burning Heart" song from Rocky 4. It's got that same time signature.

I take it by the thread title, Disney is releasing the episodes over a couple months. Lame. Will wait to sign up until they are all on there. I do the same with Hulu.

Yeah, was talking about that today. Glad they're opting to go that route instead of the "Binge! or else." route Netflix goes.

There are pro and cons to both but it makes it more manageable not to get spoiled on the internet. I watched the first episode this morning and glad I did because I have seen Baby Yoda a lot today. I don't have time to binge all at once, once a week starting Friday is fine with me.

If they put out all 8 episodes of The Mandalorian today, it would be completely forgotten in maybe 2 or 3 weeks or less. Look at Stranger Things newest season. It was completely forgotten in less than 1 month, People will just move on to something else. This way they keep the hype and interest going for weeks to come.

I know some people will whine, complain and bitch because they want to watch it all on their schedule and not have something dictate it for them.

For what it’s worth Taika Waititi is only credited for one episode as IG-11 on IMDB. Who knows if that’s accurate or if maybe someone else will voice another IG droid. I did like the banter between IG-11 and The Mandalorian while it lasted.

So will this show have actual 60-minute episodes or was all that bullshit?

I heard someone say that the episodes will all be around 40 minutes so they can run them on ABC next summer. I have no idea if there's any truth to that.

I’m good with the length personally. The first episode seemed to pack a lot into forty minutes so if that’s all they need whatever.

So why would they be touted as 60-minutes when they were making it? There's only 8 episodes, too. That's dirty as hell. But hey, take my money anyway.

I don’t remember an exact run time being disclosed. It might be like some streaming shows where certain episodes are longer. Maybe it said the episodes would be around an hour.

The credits are also 5 minutes long, so it's even shorter than 38 minutes.

As a general rule, anything that is under 30 minutes is a "half hour" and anything between 30 and 60 minutes is an "hour." Most half hour sitcomes are only about twenty to twenty-two minutes long without commercials, and most hour long dramas run about forty to forty-three minutes. Sounds like they're still using the old thirty minute broadcast block terminology for streaming programming.
