The Mandalorian: Chapters 1 and 2: The Child (S1E1 & S1E2) - 11/12/19 & 11/15/19

Figured Iíd get this started. Episode one premieres tomorrow (November 12th) and episode two premieres Friday (November 15th). Threads will normally be one episode, but seeing as thereís two episodes premiering this first week I figured Iíd combine them.

Episode Synopsisí

Episode 1
Spoiler:
Chapter 1: A Mandalorian bounty hunter tracks a target for a well-paying client.

Episode 2
Spoiler:
Chapter 2: Target in-hand, The Mandalorian must now contend with scavengers.

Ugh, WHY are we doing per-episode threads instead of just a season thread?!

Because Star Wars is a super popular IP and the show is being released weekly as opposed to the binge formula of Netflix.

There will be stuff to talk about and theorize here as opposed to most streaming shows that don't draw any chatter at all.

But people have got to speak up and say something other than....Good episode.

So this is on the Disney streaming service, but all streaming only shows will be in the TV forum?

I mean thatís the norm. Netflix and DC Universe shows are in the TV Talk forum. If you look in Streaming Talk basically all the threads are just general threads regarding different streaming services available or streaming deals. For shows I think discussion still fits better here. Plus I think TV Talk gets more traffic.

The Adult Forum is closed.

Back to the actual topic...

I don't know that I've participated in an episode-to-episode series of threads before. Basically, people should expect spoilers left and right once it airs, yes? We can just speak about the episode freely? I'm looking forward to this.

My joke was too subtle, I guess. Just call me Snake Eyes.

Spoiler:

No, I am not against episode threads. Yes, I am glad this is happening. Carry on, friends, carry on.

Yeah that was cool AF.

Loved the bounty droid sequence and the breaking the Blarg (?) scene. Enjoyed it very much.

Lots of great Easter Eggs so far.

The forked rifle is straight out of the Star Wars Holiday Special, as is the mention of Life Day.

Uses the Star Wars universe of aliens, carbonite, the Empire, etc.

And ships landing, lots of ships landing.

Badass! So I guess this isn’t set too far after ROTJ, a few years at most. Even years might be pushing it.

Itís hard to see this older version of Carl Weathers and not think of his Arrested Development persona.

I loved it. Badass and it felt like old school Star Wars.

That ending with baby Yoda made me go Awwwww

The banter between the Mandalorian and that robot during that shootout was very funny.

Also, I was surprised to see the 1st episode was directed by Dave Filoni. This was his live action debut considering he only directed animated prior to this. Solid job him.

I liked how the majority of the episode felt smaller scale and very Western-like.

re: The Mandalorian: Chapters 1 and 2 (S1E1 & S1E2) - 11/12/19 & 11/15/19

This definitely feels special already. The Mandalorian is a great character right off the bat and the tone of the show is very cool. Has a smaller scale, space western vibe which is unique and a breath of fresh air for the Star Wars universe.

Spoiler:
Interesting that there apparently is a carbonite freezing chamber on board the Mandalorianís ship. Also didnít expect the IG-11 droid to be taken out right away. Cool seeing some familiar droids (Gonk) and alien type Kowakian monkey-lizard (aka what Salacious Crumb is), the Kubaz (creature with the long snout), and whatever species Yoda is.

Iíll probably rewatch this again tomorrow as I was a bit tired and might have missed a bit, but definitely liked it so far. Canít wait for more.
