CBS occasionally can have great shows. Person of Interest was amazing. The one season we got of Limitless was fantastic. I am thoroughly enjoying Seal Team. But yeah, this looks bad.

I think a lot of the problem with CBS shows in general is that if they’re hits then they stay on the air forever and just get old after a while. That and so many of their shows have kind of a samey feel to them.

Agreed, I think that Person of Interest tricked CBS into thinking it was a typical procedural show to get it aired and then evolved it.

The Good Wife is another example for that, but mostly it's just NCIS and Blue Bloods. There was a time when I at least watched every new pilot episode. I just checked the last CBS pilot I've watched is Code Black from 2015.

Person Of Interest is the last CBS show I have watched. Can't even recall one before that. But POI was a fantastic series loved it.

Person of Interest was actually owned and produced by Warner. CBS was primarily the on-air network that ran the episodes.
Not entirely clear how much direction (or veto) that CBS imposed.

Here's the full trailer that premiered last night
Queen Latifah's character's name is Robin McCall, not Robert like the movies.
and they're using Adam Goldberg as the tech geek. He played almost the exact same kind of character on the Taken reboot.

I loved the original series and the movies, I’m having a hard time seeing QL as the main character.
I’ll give it a watch but I’m not very hopeful.

If you don’t care about the Super Bowl and plan to DVR this tonight, I would pad at least 30 minutes.
The game still has about 7 minutes left and there’s a postgame as well.
Of course if you have CBS All Access then it doesn’t matter.
TV Line reviewed it and gave it a B

So far it sorta has a "person of interest" vibe, but without an AI mcguffin.

I wasn't impressed. There was nothing unique about it. It felt like a dozen other shows. I'm tired of seeing a superhacker character. And I just didn't buy Queen Latifah as an asskicking ex-CIA vigilante.

The sniper looks like Liza in Dollhouse from a decade ago.

That was my initial thought on the hacker's first segments. Though by today's standards, the type of hacking/surveillance portrayed so far isn't so outlandish anymore and might very well be "mundane".
So far it didn't go down (yet) to CSI: Cyber or MacGyver reboot levels of unrealistic hacking stupidity. (Wonder if the producers hired a computer hacker consultant to read over the scripts for hacking accuracy?)

I love the Denzel Equalizer movies.
I love the concept (a former CIA agent helping people who have no one else to turn to).
But QUEEN LATIFAH?
She's not physically fit (not the last that I saw), and she's how old now? 50? Sorry, I don't buy her as an ass kicking force that no one can take down. If you're going to cast a woman as The Equalizer, it should be someone with some action credentials. Someone you can buy as a total physical badass. Queen Latifah ain't that.
I really don't get the casting here.

No mention of a pandemic. It appears the pilot was written back in January 2020, slightly before covid was on the media's radar.
https://www.primetimer.com/pilots/pi...er-2020-series
Not entirely clear when this first episode was filmed. Though the scenes with Adam Goldberg were likely shot after November 11, 2020.

If covid and blm were to appear outright, most likely it would be the next episode or later. (ie. After it was officially picked up in May 2020).

Agree on all counts. I think Queen Latifah is a good actress, but not a fit for this character. The "superhacker" is definitely a tired trope at this point and almost always serves as a too-convenient deus ex machina.
