Not really. I don't remember anyone complaining about RDJ being too old; somebody probably did, but you can usually find some outliers who are going to raise any objection imaginable if you look hard enough. Sounds like that retroactive claim that everyone hated The Empire Strikes Back as a deflection against criticism of The Last Jedi.

At any rate, that seems to be about the right age for Tony in the comic books. I always figured he was about forty, except for that brief period in the 1990s when he was de-aged to a teenager around the "Onslaught" crossover. Even at 43, a long-term commitment to the character (which, at the time, was only a gleam in Kevin Feige's eye) would only put the actor in his mid-late fifties.

What the casting tells me is Jordan's role will be something similar to Costner's role on Yellowstone. Elder statesman/patriarch/mentor to the younger Lanterns. Probably not the show's central character but more like one part of an ensemble.

Aaron Pierre and Stephan James are the leading candidates to play John Stewart.

If you don’t know who Pierre is, watch Rebel Ridge on Netflix. James was recently on Beacon 23 on MGM+

I like Stephan James a lot in things I've seen him in... but the role is Pierre's to lose. He is the beyond obvious choice.

I am all for Aaron Pierre. Although, as I said in the Rebel Ridge thread, he'd also make for a fantastic Batman.

‘Lanterns’ Finds Its John Stewart with Aaron Pierre

Kyle Chandler is already on the callsheet as Green Lantern hero Hal Jordan.

Aaron Pierre, the star of Netflix’s Rebel Ridge, has nabbed the plum part of Green Lantern John Stewart in DC Studios’ and HBO’s much-ballyhooed series Lanterns.

The casting caps one of the more scrutinized actor searches in some time. Not only is the show the first major TV endeavor from DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, but the role of Stewart carries much significance, as the fan-favorite comic book character was one of DC’s first Black superheroes.

The intense casting process came down to Pierre and Stephan James, who is on the festival circuit with drama The Piano Lesson and who starred in the 2016 Jesse Owens biopic Race. Both participated in screen tests, with the actors squaring off against the already cast Kyle Chandler on Thursday and Friday. Each actor had their boosters, but the final decision was made Tuesday.

Sounds good. It was Pierre's job to lose and looks like he nailed it. Lanterns is shaping up nicely.

This is the second time in this new DC era where I've seen an actor and said that person is going to play X role one day... and then that actually end up doing it (the other being Corenswet when I saw him in 2020 on the Netflix series Hollywood). It's great when a very obvious choice gets cast.

I was excited about the casting of Garret Dillahunt until I read that he's just playing some random "modern day cowboy" (no, not Vigilante). The man deserves better than typecasting him as a variant of his Fear The Walking Dead character (yes, I am aware he was also in Deadwood).

Oh, no doubt. I love the guy. My issue is that I want something more unique/different offered to him. But, for all I know, he might end up being more than what's been announced.

I heard a podcast theory he may end up being:
Spoiler:
William Hand aka "Black Hand"

I forget why they thought thought this.

Interesting. That's an oddball character. But if anyone can make it work, he sure can.
