I don't know if there is an English aquivilant, but to me Berlanti's shows all fit the German expression "well meant is not well done". OK, seems to be his own personal best, so I'm glad, he's out of the mix.

They probably killed the Berlanti version because it would have been way too expensive with all the special effects.

I read that Berlanti just got a very rich new 4 year development deal with WB, but it's probably for stuff outside of the superhero genre.

The description of this new version of the Lanterns series sounds a lot like the beginning of Final Crisis, where John Stewart and Hal Jordan are tasked on finding out who killed Orion of the New Gods and how it happened. The first couple of issues from that series were a little of murder mystery surrounding that murder and the disappearance of meta kids

James Gunn just confirmed the main writing staff for the Lanterns series. Damon Lindelof, who most of you are familiar with, and Chris Mundy, who was the main writer for Ozark.

Officially ordered to series by HBO. It will be an HBO original series. Will be called "Lanterns"

8 episodes ordered

They've already sunk a ton of money into formulating this show, so Gunn must have decided why not.

Take this with a giant grain of salt, but apparently they've offered the role of Hal Jordan to Josh Brolin.

Josh Brolin Reportedly Offered Hal Jordan Role In DC’s Green Lantern Series (screenrant.com)

He's a good actor and I enjoy his work, but that seems like poor casting based on my decades reading the character.

I remember seeing Idris Elba in Pacific Rim and thought he might make a good Hal Jordan.

Brolin seems too gruff and grizzled to play the disciplined Air Force pilot I think of Jordan as being.

Agreed. I also take issue with his age. Granted, Gunn could change the story in countless ways to make it fit his vision, but strictly speaking: Hal Jordan left the Air Force at the rank of Captain and joined Ferris Air as a test pilot. So he was maybe 30 when he joined Ferris and would have become GL in his early 30s. But Brolin is 56. Maybe Gunn wants a "veteran" Hal Jordan the same way Snyder wanted a "veteran" Bruce Wayne, but I'd prefer to see the exploits of a young-to-prime Green Lantern rather than a seen-it-all veteran.

Well, unless Jordan is the grizzled vet and the focus will be on Stewart, Kyle and Gardner.

I know for a long time, Nathan Fillion was the guy fans wanted for Hal Jordan. Has that now "officially" shifted over to Glenn Powell?
(just talking the most prominent fan cast, not anything actually real)

I think Fillion makes a better Guy Gardner than Hal Jordan.

Fillion would have been a perfect Hal Jordan...15 years ago.

EXCLUSIVE: Emmy winner Kyle Chandler is in negotiations to star in Lanterns, HBO‘s high-profile series based on the Green Lantern DC comic, sources tell Deadline.

No one is commenting but I hear Chandler is poised to play Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern character that was played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 movie.

I'm curious why such an older Hal Jordan? Chandler is almost 60. Why not Alan Scott? Aaron Pierre makes a strong case for John Stewart. Fillion is already Guy Gardner (can't wait to see him in a bowl cut).

I actually love the idea of Kyle Chandler playing an seasoned Hal. It's got to be better than the "Frat Boy Hal" Ryan Reynolds gave us. It seems Gunn is going for already established heroes in his DCU and I'm fine with this. Kinda tired of the Ageism that's so easily applied to Hollywood casting.

Re: Lanterns -- Green Lantern Series in the Works at HBO

Looks like he'd make a good Hal Jordan.

As for the age thing, I'd tend to say they should cast superheroes a bit younger since we're looking at, potentially, a ten-to-fifteen year commitment.

Chandler is sixty. How long will he be playing Hal? Be kind of weird to see a guy in his seventies playing the Green Lantern in a Justice League movie.

Remember when fanboys were complaining RDJ was "too old" to play Tony Stark.... at 43?

Don't worry about the age. How old was Denzel in that last Equalizer movie? And besides, Green Lantern isn't Deadpool or Captian America or Batman. He flies around with a freakin green ring zappin' people with this willful ween

They were? Considering he was a junkie, I thought he fit perfectly as the boozy, drunk, sloppy mess Stark.

My assumption is that Hal is the elder statesman GL and they would be casting a younger Kyle/Guy/Stewart/Baz/Cruz to take the mantle forward.

If they're doing that, they could have gone with Alan Scott.

Alan Scott is a further reach than Hal though when it comes to the GL Corps (ie: more explanation needed, etc.).
