The War of the Worlds TV series -- BBC update
This is the original alien invasion story. Staring Eleanor Tomlinson, Rafe Spall and Robert Carlyle, this tense and thrilling drama follows a young couple’s race for survival against escalating terror of an alien enemy beyond their comprehension. The War of the Worlds is a major adaptation by Peter Harness of H.G. Wells’ classic sci-fi title. This major new three-part drama is produced by Mammoth Screen for BBC One, and directed by award-winning director Craig Viveiros Set in Edwardian England, this new adaptation of H.G. Wells' seminal tale - the first alien invasion story in literature - follows George (played by Rafe Spall) and his partner Amy (Eleanor Tomlinson) as they attempt to defy society and start a life together. Rupert Graves is Frederick, George's elder brother, and Robert Carlyle plays Ogilvy, an astronomer and scientist. The War of the Worlds tells their story as they face the escalating terror of an alien invasion, fighting for their lives against an enemy beyond their comprehension.
This premieres in the UK later this Fall. It's a 3 episode series.
I assume BBC America will eventually get it shortly after it airs in the UK. It's a short teaser, but looks good. I have BBC America, so I'm in no rush to see this, so I'll wait until it hits the States,

That must be the extremely low budget one that came out back when I worked in video stores. Admittedly, I never watched it because it looked worse than Corman/Asylum stuff. I may be wrong though ...

One thing about the BBC (three episodes) is that it will be longer than a movie yet not run for five seasons on a concept that doesn't need it.

I thought the same thing. This is not something that needs to or should be stretched out over 10 hours/episodes running the story into the ground to the point that we find ourselves rooting for the Martians.

I had forgotten all about this series, probably because I got caught up in watching the Fox/Studio Canal WotW series that came out right around the same time (which was fantastic, BTW). I don't think this one was all that well received but it is only 3 episodes so why not give it a go.

Just finished ... (thank you snow day!) ... It is very well done. I can't say it does anything revolutionary, but the first two episodes were damned good. The third episode/third act was rather weak though.
I have a new crush ... Eleanor Tomlinson.

I just finished this up on AMC+ It's no longer on Prime video. This is a case where I think it needed more episodes. The first 2 episodes were pretty good. The finale was so unsatisfying & rushed. Plus, they tried to tell the story in 2 different time periods which made it a little confusing.
It ended kind of bleak without much hope.
Now I have to catch up on the EPIX version.
