The drama series EUPHORIA begins its eight-episode season SUNDAY, JUNE 16 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO. Multimedia superstar Zendaya ("Spider-Man: Homecoming") heads the ensemble cast of the show, which follows a group of high-school students as they navigate a minefield of drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love and friendship. The series is created and written by Sam Levinson (HBO's "The Wizard of Lies"), who also directs five episodes. The series will also be available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and partners' streaming platforms. EUPHORIA puts a fresh spin on the coming-of-age narrative, exploring the teenage landscape of substance-enhanced parties and anxiety-ridden day-to-day life with empathy and candor. The series follows 17-year-old Rue Bennett (Zendaya), a drug addict fresh from rehab, who's struggling to make sense of her future. Her life changes dramatically when she meets Jules Vaughn (Hunter Schafer), a trans girl who recently moved to town following her parents' divorce, and like Rue is searching for where she belongs. Also in Rue's orbit are classmates Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi), a jock whose anger issues mask sexual insecurities; Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie), Nate's on- and off-again girlfriend; Chris McKay (Algee Smith), a football star who finds the adjustment from high school to college harder than expected; Cassie Howard (Sydney Sweeney), whose sexual history continues to dog her; Lexi Howard (Maude Apatow), Cassie's younger sister and Rue's level-headed childhood friend; and Kat Hernandez (Barbie Ferreira), a body-conscious teen exploring her sexuality.

That doesn't sound at all fun. Wasn't aware of the synopsis but the trailer already made it look disturbing and disorienting. Weird show for HBO to even do, let alone pair up with Big Little Lies S2

I’m hoping for something Skins-like. But this looks heavier. It’s from Sam Levinson, who did Assassination Nation, which I loved. So I will definitely be checking it out.

Sounds like a PC nightmare.
A lot of the stuff that's put out today is so focused on identity and "wokeness" that they forget about just writing a good story. A person is so much more than their sexual, racial or ethnic identities. Of course that is part of them and should be intricately woven into the story, but sometimes writers/producers forget about the heart of the character.and just giving us a good story when they are so busy checking "identity" boxes.
A lot of the stuff that's put out today is so focused on identity and "wokeness" that they forget about just writing a good story. A person is so much more than their sexual, racial or ethnic identities. Of course that is part of them and should be intricately woven into the story, but sometimes writers/producers forget about the heart of the character.and just giving us a good story when they are so busy checking "identity" boxes.

Well that was a hell of a first episode. I thought it was odd that there would be a parental discretion warning before an HBO show, but it was definitely warranted.

Zendaya was a Disney Channel star. Probably to warn any young audience and parents that this definitely would not be like her previous work.

Yeah, probably because of the star. I thought it showed promise. I'll stick out another episode. I suspect the partial scene, go back and show more technique will be used in this show a lot.

I'm glad I read the description here, because I probably wouldn't have been paying full attention to the reveal that Jules is transgender. I'm already tuning out on Rue's monologues.

Well episode 2 was pretty terrific. Tense, and insightful and showed more narrative "drama" than I expected from this show.

First two episodes were great.. I'm not sure if Nate knows Jewls is trans. I'm sure Jewels doesn't know Nate is shyguy. I'm hoping the reveal doesn't end in Jewels being killed or beaten by Nate. One of the best parts so far is the use of music. Had to look some of those songs up.

I don't know I'm sure everyone has hardship. But as a father to 3 girls (24, 18, 15) I'm so glad we're normal. Zero issues health or otherwise. I kept them busy through their early and teen years and I guess I was super involved in their life to let them fuck it up. lol

Watched the first episode and it just seemed to be shocking for shock value sake with very little interesting story-wise. I have a 15 year old son and luckily he acts nothing like these kids (at least around me) but also doesn't hang out with kids like the ones portrayed either (and we aren't church-goers so he isn't surrounded by goody-goodies).
I thought the 7 year old drug hustler was a little hard to believe (especially the way he carried himself). The rest seemed sadly legit though.
I may try the second episode but the first one didn't grab me like I had hoped it would.
