I watched "Good Times" for most of its original run because there were five stations and I felt some sense of "duty" to watch the Norman Lear productions; however, I never really thought it was all that special. Last night's episode pointed to a lot of the show's problems. It was a fairly dull and obvious script with way too much terrible "JJ" material.

I agree with a lot of the others. Good Times was a disappointment. I don't think I laughed or cracked a smile once. All In The Family was way better, and it did seem like Woody toned it down a little compared to last year. Also, I'm with Martin Short. Bring on Facts of Life!

Jay Pharoah was AWFUL. I thought everyone else was okay (and it was really nice they included John Amos, although I don't know why Kimmel didn't have him back out when he introduced the rest of the original cast).
I thought Woody was MUCH better this time as Archie than he was last time around. I think he got the memo about his first performance. And Tomei deserves some kind of special award for her making BOTH Edith Bunker and Aunt May sexy.

While I'm sure there's a way to find the episode online, Starz Black is airing the original "The Politician" episode of Good Times on Tuesday.

OK, I'd held off judgement, but now I can say that Pharoah was terrible.
Like I mentioned already, I watched Good Times back in the day, but as a 7-year old, I wasn't watching for the depiction of a black Chicago family living in the projects; I was watching for Jimmie JJ Walker to say "Dyn-o-mite!"
Of course, I now realize it wasn't his comic delivery, or the sharp writing. Walker was just a clown. So I'd held off judging, because maybe Pharoah was just doing it the same way Walker did. But now having seen the original episode, as clownish as Walker was, it was nowhere near the level of the way Pharaoh did it. That was an embarrassing performance of an already embarrassing character.

I wonder, are they using the original Bunker chairs from All in the Family on these re-created episodes or are they really good replicas? I know the chairs are on display at the Smithsonian but maybe they’re on loan.

Watched it on Hulu, yeah Good Times casting was great. It was well done. They bleeped something in All in the Family again, not exactly sure what it was. If it was ok for 1976 prime time why wasn’t it good for today? Graphic violence is fine, but bad words are a no go.

I'm sure it was an ethnic slur, that may have been acceptable or "funny" in 1976 but we now realize how offensive it really was.

ABC has pulled back the curtain on the third installment of its Live in Front of a Studio Audience franchise. Jimmy Kimmel announced on his late-night show Thursday that the 90-minute special will re-create episodes of comedies Diff’rent Strokes and its spinoff The Facts of Life.
The live event will air at from 8-9:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 7.
The cast for the Diff’rent Strokes re-do is intriguing: John Lithgow will play Mr. Drummond, Kevin Hart is Arnold, Damon Wayans embodies Willis, and Ann Dowd portrays Mrs. Garrett. The Facts of Life cast is TBA.
Live Before a Studio Audience‘s executive producers Norman Lear, Jimmy Kimmel, Brent Miller, Kerry Washington, Will Ferrell, Justin Theroux and Jim Burrows are returning for this round.
“Other than with my family, there’s no place I’d rather be in my 100th year than on a soundstage at Sony with these glorious actors reliving what our company had produced all those years ago and sharing it with the millions of viewers who could use a little laughter,” Lear said.
Diff’rent Strokes aired on NBC from 1978-85 and starred Gary Coleman, Todd Bridges, Conrad Bain, Dana Plato and Charlotte Rae. The Facts of Life debuted in 1979 and ran to 1988. Its evolving main cast included Rae — whose Mrs. Garrett character was the link between the two sitcoms — Mindy Cohn, Kim Fields, Nancy McKeon and Lisa Whelclel.
The first two installments of Sony Pictures Television’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience re-created episodes of Lear classics All in the Family and its spinoff The Jeffersons in spring 2019, and a different All in the Family episode was remade along with another of its groundbreaking spinoffs, Good Times, that winter.
The special will air one night only on ABC, then will stream on Hulu the following day.

Not as big of a fan of Diff’rent Strokes or The Facts of Life really, but I’ll probably still check it out. I probably preferred Diff’rent Strokes of the two.

I am not a fan of Diff’rent Strokes at all but the names they have for Mrs. Garret,Arnold and Mr Drummond are way too intriguing.

Yeah, this sounds absolutely dreadful. It doesn't help that I find Kevin Hart excruciating. I feel like tuning in just to watch the train wreck as it's happening in real time. I'm in for "The Fact of Life" depending on who they cast for that. Will Betty White be playing Blair?
