Was not aware he was such a huge wrestling fan. His son (Jungle Boy) cancelled his appearances as of now, for good reason.
This is the sort of celebrity death that shocks you. I mean when he first had the stroke it was a shocker. Then to hear they had to pull the plug....man that's just horrible.

I'm reminded of so much death while watching this. Luke Perry, Chris Farley, Phil Hartman, Jan Hooks and Don Pardo are all gone. Hell, even during Weekend Update they had a news item on Aretha Franklin.

I enjoyed seeing some of the 90s cast again, like the Phil Hartman "Sassy" sketch. And the classic bit of Point/Counterpoint with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, only with Mike Myers as Jagger, and Jagger as Richards.

Yeah, there’s a point early with Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks as Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Chris Farley playing a wrestler onscreen together, and I’m just like damn... and it made me incredibly sad.

Don't forget Adam Sandlers Marky Mark impression

I actually thought that was a bit sophomoric and over-the-top, like much of Sandler's post SNL output (although his Operaman bit on Weekend Update was very funny). I got a bigger laugh out of Dana Carvey's Christian Slater.
The reason I like the Myers/Jagger bit is the sheer audacity of Myers to do a Jagger impression while sitting right next to him, as well as Jagger doing a Keith Richards impression (all the more impressive since Jagger is not a comedian/impressionist by trade). SNL has lost that edge, as I also remember David Spade once doing his Michael J. Fox bit right in front of him, with Fox doing everything he could not to totally lose it.

SNL may have lost some edge, but watching this episode I noticed so much of it was un-funny. The audience was so quiet and you could only hear a few chuckles - most jokes fell flat.
Weekend Update was absolutely horrible. The jokes were downright terrible and Kevin Nealon's delivery was embarrassing. I forgotten how bad it was.

Okay...so now this has devolved into an SNL reflecting back on the 90's thread?

Well since I don't watch Riverdale, and they recently reran the SNL episode he hosted, it's my only current frame of reference. But point taken. I will say that he was pretty good in the episode, for not being a comic actor. I noticed in the "handyman" sketch that he seemed to have memorized his lines better than today's hosts, so it's clear he was indeed talented. Again, not really an active "fan" of Luke Perry, but he certainly seemed like a good guy overall. Sorry to hear about his death.
Better?

Since 90210 was his most famous part and Riverdale was his current part those were the reactions that got the most coverage, but I went on a deep dive last weekend for reactions from cast members of his other work. Lots of the guys from Oz talked about how great he was and so did the the cast of John from Cincinnati. I guess he helped Willie Garson (from JFC) with an adoption.

They can’t all be zingers.
There was a lot of good stuff in that era of SNL, but there was also some pretty unfunny crap they ran into the ground (I’m looking at you, “Coffee Talk”), and other stuff that was funny the first time, but you dreaded it showing up again after the second appearance, like “Hans and Franz.”
Still, the late 80s/early 90s cast was insanely good — Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Phil Hartman, David Spade, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, Chris Farley, Kevin Nealon, Jan Hooks, Chris Rock, Jon Lovitz, Dennis Miller (at least on Weekend Update).

This headline is ridiculous and misleading but it got my interest. Seems it was an eco friendly burial with mushroom seeds and fertilizer used for his burial.
