Luke Perry (90210, Riverdale) suffers "massive stroke" [Update: Dead at 52]

Luke Perry suffered a massive stroke Wednesday, and is currently hospitalized ... TMZ has learned.

Paramedics responded to Luke's home in Sherman Oaks around 9:40 AM. We know the call came into the fire department for someone suffering a stroke, and Luke was transported to a nearby hospital. It's unclear what his condition is right now.

The 52-year-old who stars as Archie's dad, Fred Andrews, on "Riverdale" ... had been shooting episodes recently in L.A. on the Warner Bros. lot.

Luke's medical crisis coincidentally struck on the very same day Fox announced it will reboot "Beverly Hills, 90210" -- the show on which he shot to fame, playing Dylan McKay in the 90s.

While his former costars -- Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Jason Priestly, Brian Austin Green, Tori Spelling and Gabrielle Carteris -- will be on the revived series, Luke has not signed on to the project.

Story developing ...

Hopefully he recovers, 52 is young. So did he have the stroke yesterday?

8:38 AM PT -- A rep for Luke tells TMZ ... he is currently under observation at the hospital.

Head about this driving into work. Sad shit. I'm hoping he recovers.

That really sucks to hear. The last thing you want to hear is a fairly young man suffering a potentially life threatening medical emergency. Hope he can recover, but strokes can do some pretty significant damage.

Jesus christ That's awful. He's the last person I would think of to go through something like that. Damn I still remember him from 90210 and how the show in the beginning was not popular. He and Presley had girls creaming in their panties.

He’s always looked ten or fifteen years older than his actual age.

A stroke can happen to anyone. I mean it's a blood clot in the brain and that doesn't mean eating better or exercising more will prevent that from happening. It can happen to anyone.

He's still a relatively young man, so hopefully he can recover. This will very likely force him to sit out the remainder of Riverdale's current season if he can recover.

Probably because he was playing a teenager when he was in his mid-20s.

Heh yeah, 23 when it started, 33 when it went off the air. Carteris was always the bigger joke tho, since she was 29 when it first aired (she'll be 60 in two years)

Yeah, I had a stroke at 27, and I was working out 6 days a week and eating really healthy.

TMZ said he's sedated, not in a coma right now. I guess we won't know anymore until tomorrow.

Sorta.. The TMZ article says both that a family member said he was placed into a coma, but his rep says he is sedated.

I tend to lean with the family member, the rep is less likely to say anything bad to the media.

Either way, it does sound bad. Hope he gets through it. My father in-law suffered a massive stroke about 8 years ago, they didn't think he was going to make it, but he did. He can't talk and he's paralyzed on his right side, and it took him a long time to even be self sufficient again.

I'm extremely embarrassed to admit that I watched that show for a few years. Anyway, all the best to Perry.

Nothing to be embarrassed about. I don't know what it was about the show that had me glued as well. All that silly drama. I do remember Heather Locklear kept it interesting.

Oh man I flopped all over that one! I forgot all about Melrose Place. Another sitcom I watched just as much as 90210 but I forgot all about it! How I got the two of them mixed up is beyond me. Holy shit. I don't remember anything of 90210. No memorable episodes. Same for Melrose Place. I guess they are so forgettable to me.

Well, technically Melrose Place was a spin off of 90210, so we'll let it slide.

Heh, me too. I also tried to carefully cultivate a Luke Perry hairstyle (complete with the sideburns of course!), and only partially succeeding, because of the whole "girls creaming in their panties" thing mentioned above. It didn't work as well for me.

Anyway, I hope the dude pulls through this, I watched a lot of 90210 back in the day.

You mean that hot little minx, Jennie Garth.

Let's face it, Perry career has consisted of doing his best brooding, squinty-eyed James Dean impression. Do the gals fall for that schtick in real life? Probably.
I watched the show with my sister... and my dad, and if you knew my dad, you'd be shocked that he would give such a show the time of day. It was cheap, lowbrow trash for all of us, I guess, though my sis had crushes on Priestley and Perry.

I donít think many people watched, but he was in a show called Jeremiah back in late 90s or early 2000s. I think Showtime. It also stared Malcom Jamal Warner, and was created by J Michael Strazinsky. I remember it being good. It may not hold up today, but it was before a lot of serialized shows so that segment of tv was still young.
