Airing in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the Jonestown massacre that claimed the lives of more than 900 people, the two-night special event paints a picture of Jim Jones' transformation from charismatic preacher and champion of civil rights into egomaniacal demagogue who led the biggest mass suicide in American history. Based on the best-selling book by investigative journalist Jeff Guinn, and featuring archival footage - including secret FBI and CIA recordings, unreleased photographs and previously classified documents - "Jonestown: Terror in the Jungle" will attempt to answer the questions how? and why? The definitive account also includes new interviews with survivors and Jones family members.

Interested in new material. Otherwise this is like all those Robin Hood movies. They get repetitive. I’ve watched the fictionalized Eli Roth movie. And two documentaries that seemed to cover it well.
So am I going to learn anything new if I watch this?

Give credit where credit is due. Roth was only the producer of THE SACRAMENT. Writer/Director Ti West made it actually watchable.

I just watched part 1. It was 2 hours long.
Very very exhaustive look at Jones and the evolution of his cult. I am really impressed with the interviews and footage they managed to put together.
But, it's really well done. I know most here don't have the time, but it's worth a look if you're interested in the material.

Don't really know much about this event so have this on DVR. Saw ads for it during Deutschland 86, and if you're not watching that, shame on you.

I'm 34. I mean, yeah, I've heard of it. Never did much research on it or really watched anything about it.
