Re: Magnum P.I. (CBS) -- Reboot of 1980s show -- Premieres 9/24/18
Playing catch up.. the second episode should have used Roger E Mosley instead of Carl Weathers. If they played it right, they COULD have their own version of Ivan with a long game story arc if Samal Talib had been one of the captors of the crew.
And already using OG Magnum characters in episode three with Ken Jeong as Luther Gillis, but he's barely involved in the episode unlike Eugene Roche (the original)? And the new character, isn't really new. She replaces Agatha from the original series.
I like that it seems Higgins is missing being an operative, which is why she chooses to be more involved with cases. Jay still has no charm or charisma as Magnum. I would have liked to have seen what Matt Nix could have done with this series.

There's nothing particularly unique about this show but I'm enjoying it.
Perdita Weeks is probably the primary reason. That is one attractive woman.

Attractive and charismatic. She is typically the best thing in any scene she is in regardless of who else is there.

No talk about the inevitable Hawaii Five O crossover which happened before xmas ?
It wasn't bad, the interplay between the supporting cast was better (in particular the ladies). With Magnum and McGarrett, was too much blowing smoke up each other's ass

Very much so. Rather forgettable after H50 first part of the two crossover episodes.
More generally, H50 and MagnumPI have been similar to other CBS "fire and forget" type of procedural fare. Once I watch a generic episode every friday, it is largely forgettable the next day.
Other than the underlying cast + mo of the characters, many procedural shows' episodes become almost interchangeable with one another in terms of storyline and what to expect. Basically like watching a 1-hour equivalent of a generic action movie/drama that is rather generic and unmemorable.

Wonder how many H50 characters they'll bring on to Magnum PI.

Alright this thread has been dead for 2 years, but this is worth a bump.
Magnum PI picked up by NBC. 20 episodes for 2 seasons with the option for more.

I was a fan of the Selleck Magnum, so I gave this a try in the first season.
Surprised to read it has just been on for 4 years, I honestly thought it was more like 8. Pandemic time confusion, I guess.

Not surprising, they won't start filming until Fall and aim to air them in 2023.
I wonder if Peacock will get the rights to seasons 1-4. Currently Paramount + carries season 4 and that's it. I expect Paramount + to drop it eventually.

I wonder if it will still air on Friday and maybe come before or after the Blacklist?

The question I have is... what happens with characters that crossed over from Hawaii 5-0? They might not have been series regulars, but were recurring. I don't believe Hawaii 5-0 is under Universal Television.. so would that make them CBS/Paramount exclusive?

I guess it's a good thing Magnum never crossed over with NCIS: Hawaii.

Yes, I know the vast majority of this forum doesn't care about this show. Maybe 3 or 4 including me
But NBC just announced it returns February 19th
It's 10 episodes. And yes, Higgins and Magnum are now a thing.

Re: Magnum PI (Moving to NBC) — Series Thread
So the new season 5 premieres next Sunday on NBC. I had around 8 episodes left from the final CBS season on the DVR and wanted to get caught up in time for next week, so I powered through all them in about 3 days.
Good stuff. i know this show doesn't draw much discussion since it's a procedural and it's not "smart" TV which I know most of you look for. But, it's fun, bright, the characters have all developed really good chemistry and it doesn't take itself too seriously. I noticed on the NBC promos, the new footage actually looks more brighter than on CBS. Just seeing Hawaii every week on TV is enough to keep watching since H50 was cancelled.
I think the Magnum and Higgins romance worked out fine and developed pretty naturally. Hopefully they don't do some BS and throw obstacles in their romance which so many other shows have done.

Yep. Excited for this to come back. We were missing this show. The show always looked beautiful and made us want to go to Hawaii. Higgins wasn't bad to look at either.

The 2 episode premiere on Sunday was entertaining. But, I do think it's dumb and cliched that Magnum and Higgins are hiding their romance from their friends. Even TC and Rick knew that Magnum had a thing for Higgins.
They introduced a new temporary cop who is kind of a douchebag while Gordon's future with HPD remains uncertain.
That was nice of NBC to have a Magnum voice over a full recap of the show and who all the characters are since they are showing this to more potential new viewers.
I had forgotten that James Remar appeared in Magnum in seasons 1 and 2, and now they kill his character off for this new arc,
