re: The Office -- new series coming to Peacock

If this revival ends up happening, lets hope Universal finally re-releases the season 8 set as single-sided bluray discs.

Apparently the original season 8 bluray release was done as BD59 double-sided flipper discs with the bluray version on one side and the dvd copy on the other side of the same corresponding disc. I went through several sets where they were all defective and largely unwatchable (ie. freezing, pixelation, etc ...), until I eventually got a refund and gave up trying to find a defect-free set.

Though wishful thinking on my part, lets also hope Universal also releases seasons 1 to 4 on bluray as a silly cash-in on this revival.

Wait Olivia Munn and Nadine Velasquez are on some show on the History Channel?

Steve Carell and John Krasinski are serious actors now, I guess.

While I enjoyed the entire run, the original (US) went at least two season too long. I don't need a revival. But if it happens I'll watch it.

This is only worth pursuing if Carell decides to do it. Without him it's just the last two seasons again, and I don't think anyone really wants to see it.

I can envision a scenario where Michael Scott moves back to Scranton. Any scenario where Jim Halpert ends up working at the Dunder-Mifflin Scranton office again is just depressing for the character.

Jim's company can buy DM and he'll bring Michael back to manage it. Jim being Michael's boss could be good.

It will never happen, though.

I thought this was referencing the opening monologue on SNL when Carell hosted a couple of weeks ago. Worth a watch for fans of the show (and a revival). Even a Kenan and Kel reference thrown in for good measure.

re: The Office -- new series coming to Peacock

my 13 and 15 year olds LOVE this show for some reason. I've found myself sitting down to watch with them and was surprised how well it holds up, but it seems like a lot of the Michael story lines wouldn't be possible in the current "me too" environment.

I stopped watching even before Steve Carell left so a lot of the episodes are "new to me" the biggest issue is my kids jump around as they have now watched the whole series so I cant quite keep the storyline straight when I sit down at times. For sure the 'new Jim and new Dwight' temps were some of the weaker storylines....

The Office is making a HUGE comeback with the kids. We'll leave it on Comedy Central just to have it on... still holds up... but yeah, Me Too is definitely going to impact some future potential. If I was in charge of NBC, I'm backing up the Brinks trucks and getting Carrell and Jim there any way possible.

I checked out of The Office early into season 8 because it was so unwatchable, so I have no idea how they ended the show. They could always pull a Will and Grace and just ignore the finale.

But they will never get Carrell back, his movie career is too big.

I stand by what I said about the possibility of this when it was first rumored last year. If Michael, Jim, Pam, and Dwight don’t return I’m not that interested.

Ed Helms is a decent actor, but I was never the biggest fan of the Andy character as the lead really. Not sure if that’s who they’re eyeing for it if this happens or not, but it seems possible given that he’s the biggest star of the group that’s potentially left to come back.

The finale is good and worth watching. The last few seasons were terrible.

It really did have a good finale despite having a lackluster final four or five seasons. Truthfully though I do have to admit despite not enjoying it a lot at the time I do find myself enjoying the occasional re-run of a later season episode I haven’t seen. Probably because I don’t watch it week to week where it gets old fast and just watch it randomly if it’s the only thing I find on.

The show should have ended after season 7. Hell, Michael's final episode would have been an amazing SERIES finale.

I think I watched one episode after Steve Carell left. I couldn't even be bothered to finish out the season.

I liked it when Red Reddington was posing as the boss for awhile.

Those final seasons are brutal. Robert California was just awful. Andy was a terrible boss. But if we're going to be honest, even Carell's last season or so weren't all that good either. He turned into a cartoon character.

So after looking up when Carell left (end of season 6), that means the show was truly "good" for about half of its run.

I remember all the bitching in The Office threads where people despised Michael... He was the show.

I remember it was especially bad in the episode thread where he drove his car into a lake because GPS told him to. But he really had become a caricature by then.
I’d be down for a revival if it was a mostly new cast.

For crossover purposes, the reboot will be called The Chicago Office.

I was looking at Steve Carelle's IMDB and sadly he seems to be attached to a new show for 2019 "Untitled Morning Show Drama" 10 episodes listed as "announced."

I suspect that makes his presence in a reboot unlikely...

His presence would be unlikely even if he didn't have a show.
