It will probably be true. I am not super interested but I will certainly watch the show likely at the exact premiere time.

I really feel like I'd be more likely to watch this if it wasn't going on at the same time as the Game of Thrones show. That's a lot of genre fantasy at once.

I consider the Lord of the Rings films my second favorite franchise of all time behind Star Wars. They inspired a trip to NZ in 2004. Even so, I have no plans to watch this until there’s a lot of feedback from fans. I don’t trust Amazon at all to make this good.

So, that’s like what, a few more viewers than Sneaky Pete or Goliath?

I don't trust the fake ass fans. "ZOMG, there are peoples of Middle-Earth with different skin color?!" I will watch this until end. Can't wait!

Current Star Trek shows. Especially Strange New Worlds. But they're using that giant LCD screen. Movies? Lots. I guess the thing is that a large part of this genre and especially for LotR is world building. And that involves a lot of real life world building. Peter Jackson's LotR trilogy largely existed IRL through miniatures and props and costumes. Ironically the world has to be a lot more believable in a fantasy story like this then say a Marvel movie. A large part of the success is the buy in.

Thanks for answering. The Star Trek shows are definitely sharp. The SFX in WoT didnt bother me as much as the unneeded changes

I pretty much worship the books but this is a different thing and that's OK. The books will still be there, they're not changing, and I hope to enjoy this. But if I don't it won't diminish anything about the books, or the Jackson films, or whatever. It is it's own thing.

I am only guessing here but a lot of the designs from the Jackson films came from those used in various editions of the books, so perhaps those can be used but anything created specifically for the films is probably off limits. So the giant Orc with the scrotum-like chin from the first Hobbit film is probably off limits as it was a unique design (thank God) but a typical Orc is probably fine.

Yeah, my nearest participating Cinemark is 15 miles away, so that's a no-go. Cool for those that can get to one, though.

One 50 for me.

I got to see BSG: Blood and Chrome on my local (real) IMAX for free. That was pretty cool.

I got to see Razor in the theater back in the day, but it looked like they were projecting the DVD.

Still a lot of fun.

I'll just wait to see this on Prime video like everyone else. And I'm sure the free screenings will be full. The closest Cinemark is about 10 miles from me and that's not worth it for a screening that I may not get into.

I wonder if I would set myself up for failure watching it in the theater. Might draw too much of a comparison to the movies.

I signed up for the Aug 31 showing and got seats that are a bit on the side, but eh, they're free.

The only Cinemark was about the same distance but it closed before Covid hit so it hasn't been an option for a while. The closest one now is way over in Kansas, which I never visit.

Looks good. The first three movies were the greatest thing in my life at the time.

Not sure if this was posted yet. But here is some background on the unknown duo in charge of this thing: https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com...-rings-series/

Impressive production values for sure. I still worry the story might be dull, don't get a great feel for plot or overall conflict. But it sure looks pretty.

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power -- news, rumors, etc.

Well tomorrow is the moment of truth! Reviews have been overall positive, if a bit measured. Most have mentioned the slow pace of the first two episodes...and that sounds good to me! Season could be close to the 9.5hr run time of the original theatrical trilogy, and it took a good hr to both start and end. (while still being very engaging/compelling) Just hoping this can capture at least some of the spirit of LOTR.

I'm not familiar with much outside of LOTR and the Hobbit novels, but I've found Nerd of the Rings and Fellowship of Fans to be pretty good follows on Youtube.

Read a horrible review of it, can't remember where, where it says it just moves slow and of all the parts of the story to adapt this was a misfire. I'm still in, but it has tempered my enthusiasm.
