Yeah, it was more of a flash forward than a preview.

And Game of Thrones, arguably the most popular show on TV, had its season finale in August, so what?

This Is Us only has 18 episodes and would rather launch in the fall. It did the same thing last year.

TV doesn't really play by those "traditional" rules anymore.

I understood it as Toby being depressed (and the puppy was in the bed next to him so that ain't what happens).

So I guess that Kate hasn't made any progress in her weight loss over the next year.
Seems to me like she has actually gained weight (a lot of it) since the first season when they first started that short lived story line. But if they could get the actress to work with them, they could always go there again.

Yup, not the dog. Could be one of the parents, or the brother, or all three dying in some kind of tragic accident. But until then, given who they got to play the parents, I suspect we will see one (or both) of them again in S3.

Yeah but they could have done 23 or 24 shows and I bet NBC would love more episodes in the season.

The speech Jack had for Katie in the car before she got married was touching.

This was a creative decision by the creator of the series to only film 18 episodes per season.
