It was announced months ago he was going to be in it and was discussed in the season 7 news thread. I thought he fit in well.

Maybe he'll croon "The Bear & the Maiden Fair" to Arya & win her heart (if she has any left).

Remind me how the face trick works... did Arya have to go back to that building with all the faces to get Walter Gray's face or did she simply cut it off and put it on after she killed him? How does wearing his face alter her voice? Did it also make her hands look old because if not her young hands would have looked odd to the other servants while she was wearing his face.

If Sam really wanted to impact the Winter War, he'd kidnap this maester and confine him to the latrine pit until he finishes his tome.

It was ok. I like Daenarys with the Claire Underwood moment at the end.

I knew nothing of the Sheeran cameo and also thought it was weird seeing him, but didn't think it was bad. That opening with Arya poisoning everyone was badass.

I thought it was a good night episode. It set up the story lines for this season. Wow! Arya is on a revenge spree. I wonder if she'll face any repercussions from the Faceless Men for her assassinations? You have been missed Game of Thrones!

I had heard about the Sheeran cameo and could have done without the lingering shot of his face.
But yeah, enjoyed Arya's scenes. Both the beginning, and the sit down with the soldiers; it was nice for her to see the human element of the men and boys fighting in this war.
Enjoyed seeing Jon being a king and his discussion with Sansa as well.

I forgot to add. It looks like being an apprentice Maester is the worst job ever. Cleaning bed pans, assisting in autopsies, and almost being touched by someone with greyscale.... It looks like Sam isn't even close to earning a link on a Maester collar yet....

I wonder why the Baratheon sigil wasn't changed to the Lannister's in King's Landing for the opening credits.

Was that Jorah Mormont? I couldn't tell but him asking about Daenarys makes me think it was. I can't remember where we saw him last.

I'm usually pretty forgiving of Ep1 each season because it is a stage setter but that episode was really boring as fuck

He is the Warden of the Vale since Robin is a child, and the Knights of the Vale are still there. We also saw House Arryn bannerman Yohn Royce speak at the assembly.
It's too bad Sophie Turner messed up her hair last year b/c that red wig looked terrible.
I'm not sure which three kingdoms Jaime was counting. They have House Lannister...I guess they have what's left of House Baratheon, but there isn't anyone else. I'm sure the show will play up House Grejoy, but they do them no good on land.

I knew that was going to happen in the beginning. Why? a few seconds before the show started they show clips from last year's episode where the guy gets his throat cut then all of a sudden he's toasting wine? Duh.
And yes, that was Jorah.

Yeah, I thought it was clear to be Jorah, especially with them lingering a little bit on his shadow.

I thought it was a flashback. Once he started mocking them for being real men for killing a pregnant woman and a mother, I said to my wife that has to be Arya.
I knew it was Jorah because it said his name in the captions

Jorah has grayscale - also it was his voice and profile and he's the only living character of note that has grayscale. And he asked after Dany. Not sure how it could be more obvious who it was.
Thought this was a great premiere but it's obvious that they have to start wrapping things up. As much as I liked the Arya scene at the beginning, I don't think that's something GRRM would have written in - it was too neat, like checking off a checklist. Just drives home that the end is coming. Maybe if GRRM ever moves to wrap this up on his end, something similar will happen in the books.

Iron Islands - Greyjoy - Independent
The Westerlands - Lannister - Seven Kingdoms
The Reach - Tyrell - Seven Kingdoms
The Vale - Arryn/Baelish - North
Stormlands - Baratheon (Extinct?) - Seven Kingdoms
Dorne - Sand (Martell?) - At War with Seven Kingdoms?
Riverlands - Frey (Extinct?) or Tully - Seven Kingdoms? North?
The Seven Kingdoms are really in shambles at this point.
At this point it looks like the Seven Kingdoms include the Westerlands, the Reach, and probably what's left of the Stormlands. Dorne is no longer a friend to the Iron Throne, and with the Freys all dead the Riverlands might be back in Tully hands if Edmure is still alive. The Vale is aligned with the North.

Can a Harry Styles cameo not be far behind?

It was a nice setup episode, as most season premieres do exactly that and nothing more. People get too hyped sometimes.
