Hell, I'm looking forward to it, despite the immense disappointment in the main show's ending and ruined legacy.

Was the music for most of that a version of The Velvet Underground’s Venus in Furs?

I'm excited to watch this. I'm glad they cast a few know actors instead of unknowns like The Wheel of Time and The Lord of the Rings series.

That trailer looks pretty good. I'll be looking forward to going back into this world again.

I know a segment of this forum really soured on Game of Thrones, but it's been a few years and this new series has an entirely new creative team behind it.

HBO is showing a season a day of GoT this week. I caught the last 2 episodes of season 5 after work yesterday and I thought it was funny when Shireen basically gives away a huge chunk of the plot for House of the Dragon in conversations with Davos and then with Stannis in the episode where she was

Shit. I said I didn't care about any GoT spinoffs...I guess I'm a sucker for a Soft Trailer*.

Not taking a swipe at anyone here, but I get really annoyed when people talk about how the final season of GoT ruined the legacy and now they have no interest in the property. Sure that final season was rushed and inelegant. But the ride was still amazing and there were visual spectacles like we've never seen on TV before (or since). It was a really remarkable series and I just can't buy that a disappointingly rushed final season can somehow negate all future interest in the IP.
I know it's a popular position to hold right now, but I don't think it's a very fair one.

re: Game of Thrones spinoffs discussion - News, rumors, etc.

I enjoyed Game of Thrones immensely through the first six seasons. They should have just let D&D go after season six if they were tired of the show and let someone else write a better last two seasons, but there are even some things I enjoyed about the last two seasons. I agree with you Decker, I really enjoyed the ride. I won't hold the last two seasons against the spinoffs. Stephen King isn't known for writing great ends, but the ride and the content leading up to the ending keeps me buying his books. I'll be eagerly anticipating the House of the Dragon and Jon Snow spinoffs.

Jason Concepcion used to provide tons of really in depth GoT content for Grant land and then The Ringer. He left The Ringer about a year ago, declining to state what he would do next. Turns out he'll be doing his own official HBO Podcast for House of the Dragon. I will definitely keep up on that one.

Unfortunately, Alan Sepinwall says it doesn’t work very well, that the focus is too narrow and the show is pretty dull most of the time.

Reviews on Metacritic are mixed, with a current score of 68

With this starting I figured I would finally read Fire & Blood, the book the story is taken from, and I figured that would be the case. I have no idea how they are going to get multiple seasons out of it.

Not sure if this is really a spoiler but
Spoiler:
The Targaryens and Baratheons are the only prominent families from GoT that have a major presence. it did crack me up in the promo that HBO has been airing that they made sure to show a Stark eventhough the North is largely absent

I've worked in Hollywood and there are soooooo many talented actors. Personally I love when shows create new stars because you never know when some unknown will deliver an amazing performance. Look at Maisie Williams or Kit Harrington...

I've also witnessed too many prima donnas on set who have made everyone wait for hours until they are ready or who treat people like shit when they were eating out of a dumpster at Jack In the Box a year ago. Few people can handle fame and celebrity well so I say don't feed their egos by giving them more work! The world will do just fine if we never seen another show with Julia Roberts or Kevin Hart or whoever.... They made their millions, give others a chance....

You miss the point. We don't mind some unknows, but a few familiar faces are nice as well. You talk about Game of Thrones which yes did a great job of casting new faces, but they also hired Sean Bean, Mark Addy, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey. We knew that this would be a prestige drama with a first rate cast. Nobody is talking Julia Roberts-level superstars here, but just good working actors we know. Nobody in the LOTR show is remotely familiar.

They aren’t big names but I am remotely familiar with Nazanin Boniadi, Ben Walker, and Peter Mullen.

You are missing the point bluesix. I don't mind casting unknown actors, but there should be a mix of a few known working/character actors with unknown actors. You could really end up shitting the bed with casting all unknown actors like they did with Wheel of Time.

They can cast whoever they want, just as long as they don't cast any short and dumpy women like Emilia Clarke in important roles.
