Are You The One? (MTV) -- Discussion Thread

I thought I would start a thread for the new season that starts tonight. The show is discussed in the Real World/Challenge threads and thought it might be a good idea to give it a thread of its own.
This season's cast consists of 11 men and 11 women. They usually have 10 and 10.

Anyone get a chance to watch the premiere. They changed quite a few things up this season new location, new rules involving the truth booth, and some really good looking new woman.

I never understood the concept. Somehow MTV's dating computer would pick your true mate over your own preferred choice? Why would anyone side with a computer's choice over their own call?

So far, they are 1 out of 40. A perfect match couple from the first season got married and had a child. It's definitely just a social experiment.

Yeah, it is dumb and silly but fascinating if you like watching people burst into tears hearing they aren't a "perfect match" after knowing the person for 3 days.
I am a sucker for dating shows and this one is really bad but I keep up with it since they are now regularly pulling people from it to participate in The Challenge.
I usually watch it all the way through until about midway thru the season and then it just becomes a Fast Forward type show. I just get sick of each season the group gets the money on the very last chance they get to guess it. What are the chances?
I also watch it for the hot girls. It still surprises me that there is always some chick that fucks or blows a guy in the first 24 hours on a national TV show. I know I am old but jeez.

I think the show is MTV's attempt to rip off Paradise Hotel with a younger cast. Paradise Hotel is still the craziest reality series ever aired, even after all these years.

The good thing is that people her age probably don't actually know the word "tyranny" and just think its a cool name.

All they need to do is create a bit matrix of all of the questions they were asked for their profile for coming on the show and their answers, then match shit up

One of the rules from the producers is that they're not allowed to write anything down. So that would preclude this matrix you propose, as well as any kind of grid trying to keep track of the match results. They have to do it entirely in their head.

Still wouldn't prevent them from going round everyone from the opposite sex and reciting their profile answers to each other

What is this "Are You The One: Second Chances" new show coming in March? Is it going to be the same format or something completely different?
I'm hoping that this season is the first one not to find their matches by the final episode. Probably won't happen though.

I disagree with that smug skinny host guy
If people find people they want a relationship with, regardless of what some computer software says, they are leaving winners
With human emotions, a computer is never always right
the no match couples of truly like/love each other should just continue what they are doing
And its not like it's life changing money, it's what 20 to 25K each, yes nice to have but it's not like everyone is going to get a million dollars each
that would be different

quite funny all this talk about playing with their hearts and strategy got them from 5 lights to 9 lights
I've always wondered how rigged this show is and what would happen if in one series the group fluked all lights in like the second week
So far it's always been up to the last week which smells of a fix

So do I. Its annoying that every group miraculously pulls it out by the end. I want to see them go home broke.

Well, I guess that settles the question of whether or not the show is fixed to have them win every season.
I wish they would have shown more of what happened immediately following the results instead of going to the reunion pretty quickly.
The spinoff show starts next Wednesday. It has a different title in my DVR guide, so you might want to check yours and make sure it will record.

I just finished the finale, but haven't watched the reunion yet. I agree that they ended pretty quickly after they lost. I thought Comcast on Demand cut the episode early, but I guess that's what they intended.... Of all the casts, this one deserved to lose. There were a lot of stupid decisions made this season....

I just finished watching the reunion and it got heated! I also watched the first episode of the spinoff and it's done enough to keep me interested in still watching it, but I'm not a big fan of the host and the couples they cast (I wish they would have gotten some of the hotter women...). I wish Ryan would have hosted it.
