I still think they need to adopt the game of thrones style of storytelling. They juggle twice as many characters and you never feel like you haven't seen someone in a while.

There is no reason to kill the huge momentum they got off episode 1 with these boring ass episodes.

They deserve the lower ratings they have now.

Lost really started losing the program the longer it went on. Lost churned out a lot of crap like Locke on the part farm and the tale of Jack's tattoo.

But I will agree that Walking Dead is losing momentum. Wonder if folks would be enjoying this more if the last five episodes (Kingdom, Sanctuary, Alexandria, Hilltop, and Oceanside) were all intercut in (aproximate) real time instead of separated by location?

Yes! I said before if episode 1 they cut back and forth between the brutality of Negan with Ezekiel it would have been great.

It's like we are watching a play with only 1 set

I haven't watched the episode yet, so I haven't read any posts in this thread today. A guy I worked with walked in this morning and said about the episode, "Tara and Filler Episode." :(

I have zero problems with this type of storytelling. When you read a long book with a lot of characters you sometimes can go hundreds of pages before getting back to the first people introduced.

For TWD when groups are separated this is probably the best way to present the material. If you cut back and forth in every show each story gets short changed.

I feel these character episodes which reveal bits of info crucial to the whole story are very well done. When we get back to Rick and the next confrontation we won't have to wonder what is happening to everyone else.

I don't think cutting away from Neegan to Carol and the tiger would work. That first episode needed to be very dark.

I like what they're doing style wise. I hope to eventually see some snowy weather.

I look forward to a future episode where we get to find out what happened to Heath.

We did not need a 71 min episode of Tara. I like this show and will continue watching, but this was a full episode of filler material.

I hate Tara's snarky/sarcastic attitude and remarks, even in the face of death.

Was that new for the character? I really don't remember her being that way. It was bugging me.

Alexandria + Hilltop + The Kingdom + Oceanside + GUNS

Yep.

I mean, it's standard response for a TWD episode in this forum, but still.

But my initial reaction was like everyone else here. A Tara episode? For reals? This is boring. But as the episode continued it grew on me. I actually liked it. I liked what they did in this episode. Not a lot of a violence. Not a lot of walkers. People lying, from both sides, and we knew they were lying. And they knew the other side was lying.

I think this is the first time The Walking Dead has pulled a Game of Thrones on us and gotten ahead of the source material.

The new people are "Oceanside," which has been mentioned a couple of times in the comics - and not this early - but not yet shown.

Not sure what bugged me more: her attitude or her fat ass. Realize she just had a kid but still took me out of pretty much every scene. Everyone other Negan in this world should be rail thin if not full blown emaciated surviving on sub 1k calories a day.

The Walking Dead -- the only show where every episode is a pilot for a spinoff series.

Last week the "next week on" segment did not say "scenes from next week" -- it said something like "scenes from future episodes". How did nobody else see this week coming?

This is what I have come to expect from TWD. Once you reach peace with that, it was a decent episode. The plot revelations were pretty telegraphed, but are breadcrumbs for a future episode (probably Season 12 at this pace). The new society seems much more interesting than our focus group. I had forgotten all about Tara and Dr. Denise. Couldn't figure out the bobble head at first.

I was wondering about this, thanks. I am a bit beyond where the show is wrt the Negan storyline. Most recent landmark I've gotten to is, I believe issue 127. I don't recall a mention of Oceanside yet, perhaps I have not gotten to it yet?

Alexandria + Hilltop + The Kingdom + Oceanside + GUNS

Agreed. As boring as these "side" episode may seem a lot has happened.

1. A new ally against Negan with Kingdom
2. Maggie and Sasha have taken over control of Hilltop
3. Another new ally against Negan with Oceanside
4. An arsenal to use against Negan has been found
5. Carl and Jesus doing recon of Negan's location and forces
6. Daryl refusing to break. A man on the inside. Albeit a locked up one.

Forces are coming together for a takedown of Negan.
The one episode where nothing really happened and could be skipped is with Negan visiting Alexandria. Except for the gun confiscation.

Slowly, probably too slowly for good entertainment value, the four communities will unite.
Yeah, these episodes may seem slow, but crucial plot advancement is taking place.
It's like watching World War II on the history channel where each episode covers some minor, yet important event in minute detail.

Yup, sums up all of my problems with the show.

I watched the premiere this season but did not watch the other four eps until last weekend when I binged them. Since I sat through 4 hours of TWD, it didn't seem nearly as fractured as if I had waited a week inbetween eps... but I can totally see where folks are coming from.

I watched last night's ep this morning.

This show is not a "watch live" priority show for me.

Again, they really need to get rid of these solo storyline episodes.

I get what they're doing - showing other groups that will eventually team up with Alexandria to get rid of Negan - but it didn't need a whole 50 minutes on it.

According to IMDB, she gave birth on Nov. 5, 2015. This episode must've been filmed no more than 6 months ago - so it appears the actress didn't do much to lose the pregnancy weight. I'm guessing she was being sarcastic when she said she loved to run - because it was painful watching her run. As if it's a very rare thing for her. Although I did like watching her cans jiggle.

This show doesn't seem to care about those types of details. I remember the one season where they came off a winter with very little food, and none of the characters looked any skinnier and some of them looked like they gained weight (ie. T-Dog). Tyreese got a big gut in his last season... and Daryl always looks like he's got extra weight on him. I think we'll discover in a future episode that some characters are biting back at the walkers.

I see big, fat homeless people on skid row in LA. C'mon now.

And there's no pleasing people...

Either it's "ugh, another episode where Negan expounds how much Rick is his bitch" or "damn, another episode with individuals we don't care about."

So fat homeless people have discovered a way to stay nourished while eating very little? Maybe they can share their secrets with third world countries.

Hint: There are food banks/soup kitchens available and many homeless people use their begging money on fast-food since it's cheap. In TWD, food is limited for EVERYONE... ya know, since it's the zombie apocalypse.. so most people should be thin.

This show can't even keep day and night straight within the same scene ... You want to complain about people eating? :D

They have already shown they can't handle more than a couple storylines and characters at once, so why on earth they felt it would improve things by bringing in even more communities and inconsequential characters into the show is beyond me.
