I had high hopes based on this promo, which I find quite funny!

Did a quick look up: Erinn Hayes
Born: May 25, 1976 (age 40)

James was born in '65 (same as me), my wife was born in '67

The girl who plays his daughter looks like a slightly cuter Mae Whitman.

The wife reminded me of a young Krista Miller, like in the Drew Carey Show years.

This show is CBS's version of that awful Tim Allen show on friday nights, that inexplicably has been on for 7 years

I kept thinking about Erinn Hayes's bad Northern accent as I watched this. It sounded really fake to me.
I actually like Tim Allen's Last Man Standing show, but I'm biased since Home Improvement is one of my all-time favorite sitcoms. I thought this was pretty bad. I'll watch a couple more episodes to see if it gets any better. Comedies always seem to start slow out of the gate and improve as the first season goes on.

Now this is a serious question. There is a Tim Allen show on TV right now?

If Doug left Carrie, changed his name to Kevin & started a new family, it would be this show. Kevin & his friends call each other 'guy' wayyyy too much.

I watched 10 minutes of the first episode and I'm done, as I don't know why I even bother with traditional TV network shows anymore. Why do they still use laugh tracks when it's so obvious in 2016? So many comedies on Cable don't even use any audience or laugh track and the shows come off more authentic. I still watch King of Queens reruns every night, but this show is terrible.

It's mostly just CBS that still does it. They seem to have a set formula they like to run and it's a real throw back to the classic sitcom. It clearly works for them with in their line up and core demo.

The shows can kind of grown on you over time like George Costanza's theory of just "hanging around". I shamefully watched Two and a Half Men for most of it's run. I even like 2 Broke Girls now and that show is terrible.

but in both those cases I like the leads way more than I do Kevin James.

I'm not trying to be snide, but what would they consider their core demo? The only people I know who still watch Traditional TV shows on a regular basis are in my mom's generation.

Viewer market percentage and over all ratings are down for network tv but just due to the nature of free tv it's still mind numbing huge numbers. It counts the superbowl but CBS had a 10million+ average in 2016.

Big Bang was something like 20million alone
Even this show pulled a 3.2 ratings and what looks like 13million viewers after DVR numbers.

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/201...f-dvr-viewing/

so to put that into marketing perspective look at the numbers vs say people who go see a film. Just use a low $8 ticket price. So at that rate Kevin Can Wait would be, viewer wise, equal in number of people it would take for a film to have a $104 million dollar weekend take. Yet that mega hit film had less people see it over 3 days then Kevin could deliver in 30min on a Monday.

that why these show get made and advertisers pay money for the ads. Even in today's slipping network tv market place it's millions of people watching.

CBS is the old people network. "Clinging to life" is their demo.

Yep, for the first 2 weeks this is tied for the 4th most watched scripted show, alongside Modern Family in the 18 - 49 demographic. Could move up to third depending on how Modern Family and This Is Us does this week. (#1 is Empire, #2 is The Big Bang Theory).

Completely generic sitcom. I loved KOQ and will probably record these and catch up when I have nothing else to watch.

It's mindless entertainment. I've been watching, and 3 of the first 4 shows have been pretty humorous. Glad CBS ordered a full year. Ray Ramano makes a guest appearance this week, which be fun to see.

re: Kevin Can Wait (CBS) -- S: Kevin James -- Series Thread

This show was renewed which surprised me. I like Kevin James but the rest of the cast is terrible. The recent guest star by Leah Remini only accentuated just how bad the current wife is. I'm sure she's a nice person but is not a good comedic actress and just isn't funny.

Ive always had a crush on Erinn Hayes, but she's definitely underutilized. One of my favorite things about KOQ was that Carrie is just as big of a screwup as Doug most of the time, but so far, Hayes is just the stereotypical nagging wife.
