I’m redoing this show bc I knew I saw this from beginning bc always liked Pamela Adlon from Californication. I totally forgot everything I saw. That first ep when she goes in for audition and then Julie Bowen comes out and she leaves was gold. The graduation show at end of season 2, just fantastic writing and acting. It’s all Adlon and she’s incredible and deserves Emmy for this last season. She’s been nominated right? That would be a crime if not ever in the 3 years. She’s fantastic! Love this show.

So, as mentioned in the "Most Attractive on TV" thread, I've started watching Better Things mostly due to the lovely Mikey Madison.
I'm catching the eps FX runs on the weekend, and I got a little chuckle over a season 2 outing where Sam is teaching the acting class and advising them that they "won't be performing monologues written by Quentin Tarantino". And of course, two years later in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Ms. Madison actually does perform a brief Tarantino-penned monologue.

Yeah, she's easily the worst part of the show - I fast-forward whenever she's on.

I still never finished all of season 2.
went back last year when it showed up on Hulu or somewhwere and lost interest again.
Anyone remember the one daughter was on a really annoying tablet commercial making a website about bugs or yards or something.

and as far as the character goes....I don't care. She could do an entire episode just waving her middle finger while wearing a "Paff's Mom Sucks" T-shirt and I'd still DVR it.

She is a very beautiful young woman who plays an absolutely insufferable character, although some her entitlement has been tempered this season since she has had a job.
Seems like they were going in the direct of the middle daughter being transgender before, but pulled back on that this year.
One thing about this show that bothers me is watching Sam cook these elaborate meals for no one. There was one episode where she was cooking the most breakfast food (giant sausages!) I have ever seen outside a hotel buffet, and she was the only one around to eat it!

Every time Sam's in the kitchen cooking, I get really hungry.

All three daughters have gotten less annoying over the course of the series, which is a very good thing. Madison in particular was just a whiny brat, acting more like a little kid than a young adult. But she's gotten a lot better in this past season. I don't really put the blame on the actress, its the part that wasn't written very well previously.

Can't stand her, annoying as hell, and honestly not particularly attractive, IMO.
Loved seeing her get roasted in OUaTiH.

I liked seeing SUSAN ATKINS getting roasted (I'd be ok if they'd done that to her while she was dying of cancer in real life, too), but Mikey was so cute I wanted to see her in something else. And while Max is annoying, she's still a better human being than Susan Atkins.
Saw an episode last night that opened with the kids watching Bobby Hill on King of the Hill. I thought that was clever.

Saw the Graduation episode, and it's the first time I saw Max (Mikey Madison: still hot) really being an obnoxious shit. But it serves the show and also helps Sam be even more likeable in the face of such shittiness.

Still catching up to the show, with whatever FX reairs. I gotta say, all you people bitching about Max, being happy to see Ms. Madison get flamethrowered in OUATIH etc, I'd take ten Maxs before one Frankie. That kid has just zero redeeming qualities. I know, middle child and all, but Jan Brady coped with being middle child better than that brat.

It got worse.
They also all call each other sir and brother, super annoying.
All of it.
Well.
I’m now finishing up season three.
I stopped somewhere in the middle of it aring on tv and I forgot all of it so I restarted s3.
I just don’t not understand the dynamics of this family and have a hard time believing any people are like this.
They made the oldest and the youngest halfway decent but they took all the awfulness and put them in Frankie the middle one and the grandmother.
Grandmom, Phil as they call her literally hit the young one with a car and never said anything to anyone and the kid seemed to have a concussion at minimum.
Frankie runs away for no given reason and is missing for weeks at least before Pamela hears anything about where Frankie is.
An adult shows up saying she has been tutoring Frankie.
Another person says she is living at her house.
Admin finds Frankie with the tutor and tries to talk to her but after being chastised for talking to the girl who says Frankie is living with her Adlon just leaves.
Isn’t this a missing child situation, she’s no more then 14 in this season.
I don’t get it.
S4 ep 1 just started and Frankie seems just as awful as ever.

I really enjoyed the first two seasons, but I bailed a few episodes into the third. I couldn’t handle the kids anymore.

By the way, Mikey Madison looks more like Susan Atkins in that above photo than she did at any time in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Hasn't been (any) a lot of chatter on this final season, but I've really been enjoying it. It's definitely a change of pace from any other show on TV that I know of, the almost non-narrative quality of it.
This week's episode was really strong, and everyone really shit on Sam. Big time. Frankie and Phyl especially. I thought they were gonna make Duke out to be a sullen teenager this season and to an extent they have, but at least she was the only one of the 4 women who saw how shitty they were being to Sam. Probably a bit of an overshare, but I can really relate to her in the terms of everyone in the family being total assholes to someone, and that look of genuine surprise when you actually call them out on it.
Great show and I'm sad this will be the final season.

I doubt many people knew it was back.
Im a fan of the show but didn’t realaize it was back.
Will catch it on reruns on Hulu.
This is also an issue with Hulu they don’t really put shows like this upfront.

I enjoyed the series finale, with the exception of the schmaltzy rendition of "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" (and apparently my girl Mikey couldn't sing a note if her life depended on it, but that's ok she's still prettier than all get out). I love the random nature of the show and I will definitely miss it.
And I have no idea why, but there was something really enjoyable about a dainty teenage girl saying "I gotta take a shit" on television. In a way, it kinda sums up the whole attitude of the show.

It was a good finale. The song at the end was little much, but harmless. And yeah, Mikey sounded like singing isn't a thing she does at all. The girl who played Frankie was on the verge of an emotional breakdown.
