Band of Brothers

Planet Earth That counts, right? In a similar vein, I'm surprised at the lack of mentions for 30 for 30.

^ Doing a little quick research, the best I could come up with is Titanic. A two night event for ABC in 2012.

Re: Your favorite miniseries
I also like Gulliver's Travels with Ted Danson, but that might have been a TV movie...

Syfy still attempts to mount mini-series as event programming. Given how marketing works in this fractured audience environment, most networks these days turn mini-series into limited-run seasons.

Unfortunately most of them suck, both Syfy's and the network limited-run series (Under the Dome, etc).

Give them credit. I think their version of Dune far surpasses the awful David Lynch movie.

Re: Your favorite miniseries
Yeah, there are some standouts over the years (Dune, Tin Man), but they are far and few between. Most of them are poorly produced and written for material that deserves better- Childhood's End and Riverworld are the first that come to mind.

I came here to say The Lost Room, too. Very Stephen King-ish story. I was really hoping they were going to start up an ongoing series.
As far as actual Stephen King miniseries, I liked It much more than The Stand. I see they're remaking It, and 'Mike' from Stranger Things will be in it.

Re: Your favorite miniseries
The first V miniseries was awesome. The second one (The Final Battle) of which creator Kenny Johnson had nothing to do with was hogwash.
I love the ending to the first "V" episode.
I'd like to do this to a Trump poster.

Thanks to this thread I went out and bought the Lonesome Dove Blu-ray. I watched the first episode last night and enjoyed it a lot. I'll watch the rest of it in the next week and a half or so.

I'm still watching Centennial. Best portrayal of Native Americans on broadcast TV. Very respectful and accurate- better than Northern Exposure in that sense. Best look at the history of American expansionism and history of the mid/southwest territories. I'm shocked that I never heard of this show before a few days ago.

Re: Your favorite miniseries
Yep. Richard Chamberlain and Robert Conrad are two notable standouts here.
Even Gregory Harrison and Alex Karras are quite excellent. A young Timothy Dalton makes an appearance. Best cast I've ever seen in a miniseries, bar-none.
What I find particularly interesting was that this show was on in 1978 and yet was very respectful to the Native American (and immigrant) experience in the early 18th/19th centuries. Really no stereotypes to be found here. The show even acknowledges African Americans played a significant role in building the country in ways other than just slavery. For a 1978 show I found that shocking.
I've never read Michener but I think I will now.
