I'm with you there. That's the only negative thing I can say about the show.

Ryders name drew me in initially, but she was indeed a complete non factor..

The girl tho.. Oh my

I'm on episode 3 and it's pretty good so far. I really love music synth score.

I kinda feel bad for
Spoiler:
Barbara's
parents, though.

I've watched 5 and yeah, though child actors often end up ruining it for me, these are pretty much all fantastic. Their acting is incredible, and this show is better than tons of junk on "regular TV" IMO.

Finished this last night. Yeah, it held up really well for the 8 episodes. I like that it told a nice complete story (like a King/Koontz novel from the period), though leaving a snippet open for a sequel (but if a sequel never did happen, that would be perfectly fine). Unlike the "stuffed everything but the kitchen sink" pacing of American Horror Story seasons this felt just like a fun book come to life (which surely was the intent of the creators with the chapter headings for episodes).

There were enough ET nods that I'm glad they didn't:
Spoiler:
have El fly the boys on the bikes over the blocking van near the end. It's one thing to homage, but that would've pushed it too far.

About Steve:
Spoiler:
didn't get eaten :( But I give props for giving him a little arc and character besides "snob" or "bully". To be honest, you can't really blame him for breaking Jonathan's camera. Those pictures he was taking did come across as really pervy. A lot of other guys would've given him a beating.

The younger bullies didn't really think things through, did they?
Spoiler:
Complain to the cops that one got their arm broken. Why did the other kid break his arm? Because he was going to stab one kid unless the other threw himself off a cliff to kill himself.

Finally, as a former Dungeon Master I have some criticisms of Will :D
Spoiler:
Super cheap to just plop a boss-level monster like Demogorgon or Thessala Hydra right in front of the party. And even cheaper to have a character kill the hydra with a single fireball spell (which does at most 10d6 damage which wouldn't even be enough for a medium-sized normal hydra). Then again, I guess I can forgive their lax interpretation of the rules on the stressful week -ptth-

I agree--she was fantastic and as good as everything else was, a weaker performance in her role would have brought this way down.

This was amazing. It's like it was tailor made for me. From the amazing score, to the similar feel of so many beloved movies from my childhood, it was a nostalgia blast.

Yeah, this took me straight back to my childhood almost as well as movies/shows that were actually made in the '80s do.

I really loved this. I hope the word is spreading--this deserves some recognition.

I always enjoy when filmmakers seemingly come out of nowhere to put out something great. Much like Nic Pizzolatto and Cary Fukunaga with the first season of True Detective, the Duffer Brothers just emerged from nowhere with an amazing season of television, pretty much from start to finish. I look forward to what they do in the future.

Does any broadcast network have as high of a hit-to-miss ratio as Netflix? They've put out lots of really good shows with not too many bad ones to sully the batting average. At the very least right there with HBO.

Netflix apparently lets the show creators more or less have free reign over their products, it's a rarity -- something even David Fincher can't get from HBO. It may shoot em in the foot from time to time (Crouching Tiger 2, Hemlock Grove), but they seem to be doing alright now. Additionally, it's the first channel that creates content based on internet-based interests, which could have been disastrous, but somehow they're pulling it off.

Interview the composers of the show: http://noisey.vice.com/blog/meet-the...tranger-things

Apparently they quit their day jobs to do it, and I get the feeling they made the right choice.

I was able to resist watch the entire series in one day. :)

But I watched 3 episodes today.

And I will watch episode 8 tomorrow. My body is ready.

So far so good.

Man, Can we just talk about how Barb's parents and Barb herself were just... given kind of the shaft. :p

You're too good for this world, Barbs.

I dunno... Barb's disappearance is what motivated Nancy to get involved. So she wasn't totally ignored. It would have been nice to have a scene with her parents, though.

Finish episode six tonight and will watch the last two tomorrow. I liked it so far, I kind of thought that the actress playing Nancy looked like Mia Sara.

Finished it earlier today.

Finale wasn't great, but it was good. Not sure how it would have been great to me though.

#nofatchicks

Nancy was a bit of a twat and I did not care for her character at all. No, there were no bangable chicks except Winona Ryder and the other broad that played the other mother - I forget the name.
