Is everyone writing off that fact that she was recently DUMPED and is lonely and scared to be alone - that kiss with Nas just seemed like a desperate act of a woman who doesn't know how to be alone.

And she doesn't want to be with Jack even after he hinted that he was also alone. Remember when they were having a drink and he brushed her hand?

Nothing is being written off. We're seeing, what appeared to be an intelligent woman, do something really, really stupid. Potentially career ending level of stupid.

She might have been desperate, but she shouldn't be THAT desperate to the point of being a total idiot.
I can really understand the complaints actresses have of there not being any good roles for women - especially based on what we're seeing with this character. She's an up-and-coming attorney who seems to be intelligent and strong - and then we're supposed to accept that she does something like kiss her client (in full view of others) all because she's afraid to be alone? As usual, they can't make the woman a strong and independent person.

I'm not arguing, just genuinely curious. Why would/could she get in trouble for kissing Nas? I agree it's a stupid plot point, but how would it jeopardize her career?

Spoiler:
I both cases, it's like the stories were written by men who have no idea what a real live woman thinks or behaves like.

So I guess if it's not Nas, and with only 90 minutes to go it must be the step-father. I'd say he's a pretty good suspect since he almost killed John Turturro. And Nas comes out a thug--a victim of the system. If so an old fashioned expression comes to mind--ham-fisted. Whatever the resolution it can't make up for so much poor writing--the kiss just being one of many examples. Could it happen? Could a parade of elephants march up my street right now? Yeah, it could happen, but how likely is it?

I'm guessing this is going to end one of two ways:
1. Nas gets acquitted, and then it's revealed that he did it.
2. The real killer is found, Nas is acquitted of Angela's murder but goes down as an accomplice to Freddy

You all ever see Shogun? Where Toronaga helps Blackthorne to build ships to go back to Europe, but secretly sets them on fire, so Blackthorne is stuck in Japan for life to work for him? (And it's implied that this will continue forever. That Blackthorne will alway be given the illusion of escape, only to be sabotaged.)
Might be a stretch, and maybe Freddie isn't doing that type of shit. But he needs someone like Naz to remain in prison, and be under his control, not get out.

Re: The Night Of (HBO 8 episode limited series) S: John Turturro
I just realized something. We were doing racial profiling/prejudice with Nas. In the pilot is when we met him, we don't know anything about him, but we assumed he was a nerd/geek. He had an inhaler, of course he does. And so on.
Every episode is showing us the real Nas. Right now, before episode 9, we have a better picture of how Nas really is. But somehow we are still thinking of we thought he was. He's smoking crack, oh, that can't be real. He's not like that. He was always like that, but our prejudices don't allow us to see that.
I'm not saying that he's innocent, it can go either way, it's just that some us are still thinking of that nerd/geek socially awkward Nas, that we thought he was in the pilot.

I have no idea why judging someone by the information you're given on the screen is, "racial profiling/prejudice." And especially thinking some is a nerd/geek (I didn't) is "racial profiling/prejudice."

The parents are acting passive as hell (maybe the mom has stopped), because he's their son and in a parents eyes the child can never be evil or a bad guy. The dad is still in denial more than the mom.

For a second I thought Naz was going to flashback to him remembering murdering her; instead we got that.
