What premium channels do you subscribe to?

Question is in the thread title. Which of the premium channels do you subscribe to? HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz, Epix etc.?

I subscribe to all them except Epix, which Directv doesn't get. Occasionally I'll watch a movie that I missed in theaters and didn't get to see on BD, but each channel or group of channels has some unique original show that I watch. It's actually cheaper to subscribe to all of them on Directv as they give you a bundled discount.

Now it seems that every premium channel has content that airs year round.

HBO is the most expensive. Directv charges $17.99/month.

What happened to Starz?

They don't show a new movie premiere every week and they cut off the closing credits for movies with promos for Outlander or some other Starz series?

Cinemax is ok but probably the least exciting of all the premium channels since most of their movies will probably show up on HBO in a couple of months.

HBO still has the best shows and Showtimes tries but they will never be as good as HBO and their selection of movies is not that great and usually they premiere a new movie 2 years after it was released in the theater.

There's no Saturday movie premiere on Starz when they have an original show airing like Outlander.

They still air new movies. Ant Man, The Good Dinosaur and Avengers: Age of Ultron are in the rotation right now.

Same. Before Epix came along, I had access to every big Hollywood movie that eventually came out on cable. That's not the case anymore. Now I have to go to IMDb everytime to see what studio releases a particular film. If it's Lionsgate or Paramount, I'll have to buy it on PPV or Netflix it. Are there other studios that are strictly Epix?

According to Wiki MGM and UA are also on Epix.

Netflix dropped Epix late last year and their content now appears on Hulu and Amazon Prime. But, it usually takes several weeks after it premieres on the channel, before it hits the streaming services.

SHO. So much better than HBO, at least for dramas.

I "borrow" an account for HBO GO, though I only use it for John Oliver, Vice, and some of the comedies.

Re: What premium channels do you subscribe to?

I subscribe to HBO. It's part of a bundle package. I think it costs me around $12-$15/month. And I get Showtime, but only because it's just $5. If it was more, I'd drop it.

I only get these channels for the shows. I already have all the new movies on Vudu. Occasionally, they have a few obscure catalog titles that aren't available on other streaming services. So that's nice. But I wouldn't pay just for that.

I've been thinking about getting Starz for a month or two so I can catch up on their shows.

HBO. That's it. The original programming is really good, so even after we drop Dish, we'll probably still keep HBO.

I can't believe they're doing this with the credits. I can understand that they want to pimp their original shows, but just earlier today, they advertised WILD frickin' HOGS on the credits. There's no going back now.

They moved their premiers to Fridays, btw.

Anyone remember the early days of Starz? That was where I was first introduced to Hard Boiled(I'll never forget that night) I also remember watching one of Verhoeven's Dutch films there. How times have changed. It's basically the Disney-movie channel now.

The biggest blow for me is Cinemax. In the 90s, that was THE movie channel.
Sergio Leone triple features
Troma triple features
Bruce Lee triple features
Plenty of Indies
Lots of NC-17 films
Scorsese introducing foreign films.

It just seems like Cinemax is only known for Banshee (A TV show) nowdays.

Re: What premium channels do you subscribe to?

I was thinking about ending my subscription to Cinemax after Strike Back and Banshee ended, but now they have Outcast airing right now, which I just started and Quarry airing in the Fall.

But even then, their original shows is extremely limited. Never really got into The Knick even though I watched a few episodes. I don't really watch their late night softcore porn. They will have an occasionally movie that premieres a few weeks before it hits HBO.

I'll hang on to it for the time being as long as I can get the bundled discount and credits that make it cheaper.

Re: What premium channels do you subscribe to?

None. If I like the show I just buy it when it hits Blu-ray. Way less than a cable bill and I don't have to see it the day it airs. I understand that I can now get HBO (and others) via Prime or maybe ROKU. Streaming seems a reasonably viable option. I think I'm going to try it for July and see how it goes. Suddenlink cable (my only option) has a data cap though... so that might be an issue.

Re: What premium channels do you subscribe to?

We get HBO, Epix, and Encore on Dish. I do subscribe to Showtime through Prime, and Cinemax through Sling TV, and get Starz Play since I get Starz Kids and Family as part of a movie bundle on Dish.

Re: What premium channels do you subscribe to?

I have both HBO and Cinemax. Cinemax was added for free a couple of years ago because I have HBO. So, sort of a bundle but I only pay for HBO.

I know but they have shown movies like Dodgeball, The Raven, and now Dr No next week in the time slot unusually reserved for new movie premieres.

The Dresser with Anthony Hopkins aired on Memorial Day,

It is crime they can cut off the closing credits during the movies. It is a premium channel and not TBS or TNT where you can pull off that garbage.

Re: What premium channels do you subscribe to?

I have HBO right now, but I will cancel it after Ballers and Hard Knocks ends for the year. I used to be able to get it through my cable company for $10 a month. They went up to $15 this year. It's getting to be almost not worth the price. I wouldn't have it if they didn't air Game of Thrones and Hard Knocks.

I have HBO, because Dish gives it to us for $10 a month.

Just HBO. I pick up Showtime when Masters of Sex is on, then dump it again.

Showtime and Starz through Amazon. Although I just got into Fringe so I'm gonna cancel them for the 1-2 months it takes me to watch the series.

Same here. I had Epix from December to June after they had a one month of Epix free offer. But I just re-upped my contract for another year I didn't add it in.

Re: What premium channels do you subscribe to?

I have the Charter Gold package so all of them. Oddly enough I don't get The CW in HD and it's not On Demand so I need to resort to other means for those shows.
