Uncle Buck (ABC) -- Series Thread -- S: Mike Epps

Sweet fancy Moses. Hollywood, please please stop. I like Mike Epps, a lot. But this should have never happened.

That looks absolutely fucking terrible. I love the film and John Candy is one of my favorite comedic actors of all time so I'll just stick with that.

I seem to remember this already failing once with Kevin Meaney. And now they're taking an already-established and classic property and giving it a black cast overhaul, after apparently not learning their lesson the first time? I don't think so. This will redefine "epic fail" in a biblically-proportionate manner.

The people that automatically assume the only reason someone may not like a shitty looking show is because the cast is black?

I actually really like Mike Epps and James Lesure, but this looks really bad. Not new Ghostbusters bad, but pretty damn close.

I'm actually not familiar with Mike Epps at all. It has nothing to do with race though. If the same jokes were being done with a white comedian it would look equally awful. It just looks way too slapsticky.

Hes horribly unfunny. I think he gets cast in all the dreck that Eddie Griffin turns down.

Just the basic concept behind it all seems like a questionable idea for a series. Either Buck would get his shit together relatively quickly after a few early mishaps, or they're horrible parents for allowing this irresponsible idiot to keep watching their kids week after week. But if he 'learns a valuable' lesson at the end of every episode, but then turns around and does stupid shit again the next week... just dumb as hell, even for a sitcom.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one. Stargate is another. Agents of SHIELD has been moderately successful.

I think Ash vs Evil Dead is pretty good.

It was a joke, thus the "ptth" smiley.

Yikes, that's kind of harsh. I've never seen his stand up, but he's extremely likable in every film and TV show I've seen him in. I'll tell you this much, he's no worse than Kevin Hart. Who is pretty decent in films. But I don't find his stand up funny at all.

The 1989 film Parenthood inspired two series. The short-lived 1990-91 series (12 episodes) and the 2010-2015 version (103 episodes).

Stargate did better on television than in the theaters.

Fargo is also a movie spin off.

In addition to the others mentioned, there's Fargo, which is one of the best shows on TV.

And as a random example, how about Clueless, since that was at least successful for the teen market and was on TGIF for years.

I don't know what other people think, but is managing to stick around for three seasons considered a success? From what I see, it did pretty poorly by the time the third season aired.

It should have done better. Hell, they retained almost the entire movie cast with the exception of Alicia Silverstone and Dan Hedaya. Plus it had a cool theme song.

Better than My Big Fat Greek Sitcom, but that's not saying much. But it's middle of the road for TGIF standards.

It also introduced Stacey Dash to the world, so...

Oh, and since you mentioned that, I'd counter with Alice. A highly successful series that was spun off from a movie. Beth Howland's passing brought it to mind.
