It's clear that he does not get any thrills out of being a lawyer unless he is breaking the rules. The first season was about him embracing the con man side of his personality. Now he's looking for acceptance of that side. He thought he might get that with the commercial but it backfired on him.

Yeah, he had the feeling that there was some resistance to the ad, so he went ahead with it because he was so sure it would work. And even though he was right, it's just not the way things are done. Though I'm sure if the ad wasn't successful, they would've tossed him out on his ass immediately.

So is Mike going to do it?
I guess the implication is that he's supposed to kill someone. He clearly doesn't seem to want to go to such lengths, as he said he wouldn't "break legs".

Is anyone else having trouble viewing this episode on the AMC website? It asks for a cable provider login which I provide and then it takes me back out to the episode selection screen, again and again...

HE HAD HEALTH INSURANCE
His former business partners (Gretchen and Elliot) offered him a blank check to pay for an oncologist that wasn't part of his insurance network. Out of pride, he said "no," but he didn't want Skylar and Marie to know that he said "no" so he used his meth money to pay for that treatment, which was never intended to pay for treatment, but to leave a nest egg for his wife and kids after he died.
Did you even watch the first season?

I work for a school district and I never even heard of one having a "network". That's the point, the benefits are tops. You have to look at what the character would do, and not what you think you would do (looking at it from the outside, with all the facts). Both series are about self-destructive guys who are acting out of pride. Looking back, I've done a lot stupid self-destructive things in my life that seemed right or merited at the moment, but in retrospect were foolish.

So, your point is that every oncologist in America accepts the insurance plan for every public high school teacher in America?
