That was some of the worst written dialog I've ever seen.
Episode itself was watchable. Barely.
Not sure if she's had work done, or if it's make up, or a strict diet that makes her face look so taught, or if it's just how she's aging, but I think she looks great, especially with her hair down.

She looks fine when she doesn't have her hair pulled back. Anderson has had a lot of work done to her face since the show ended.

Thought it was ok. It unsurprisingly felt like a s9 mythology episode in that it wanted to exist in the framework of "classic" mythology while simultaneously ignoring (and sometimes contradicting) that same mytharc. And the retcon here to conspiracy doesn't at all work for me. But we'll see, I'm really looking forward to the MotW episodes to come.

If she's had any "work" done, it's botox only. But it's subtle. Nothing overdone like Rene Zellweger. Most women over 40 have this done from time to time. Not just actresses. I was at a small party on New Year's Eve and I couldn't believe how many women there openly admitted having it done. Anyway, I think Anderson gets better looking the older she gets.

I thought it was better than the reviews made it out to be - but I felt it was uncomfortably riding the line between staying true to the original 9 seasons and catching up new viewers. The rust was everywhere. This episode never had a chance to breathe, and what happened in that hour would have taken 10 mythology episodes to cover during the show's heyday. I fear that the run will be over before the season finds its rhythm.

Great first episode! I was expecting the worst after seeing some of the reviews posted online. They set the new story arc up nicely and it was also cool they stuck with the original intro(with the addition of Skinner). Not surprised to see CSM there at the end.....so are the Lone Gunmen gonna be back too?

I enjoyed it overall, but I'm hoping the next episode is better.
I did think Mulder was pretty quick to go whole hog with this new conspiracy theory.

I really enjoyed it, even if certain aspects felt a bit rushed. It's good to have the show back and I can't wait for more.

Have to watch this on Hulu (today)
I was out and when I got home, it looks like my Directv Genie did a freaking re-set before the episode started. Lost the 1st 15 minutes of the episode. Oh well. Not a biggie. I was looking forward to watching it when I got home.

For the first episode back after many years it was underwhelming. Too much conspiracy theory talk that felt like it had been saved up for a decade just to spew out all at once. No tension to speak of and little of the spark that made the show so great early on. FRINGE did a much better job carrying on for the X-FILES. Way too dry and talky for a premiere. Hoping it improves.
Everyone's commented on Anderson's thin face but what about her voice? I watched her in HANNIBAL and it sounded trashed there too but I thought it might be for the character. Obviously not. It sounds strained and weak in many of her scenes.

Obviously, Chris Carter is trying to re-frame the mythology so it can be both fresh and interesting going forward. Sadly, that means contradicting a lot of what's come before, most likely under the theory that it was just made to look like aliens were responsible.
But if I understand last night's episode correctly, aliens DO exist, but the whole alien conspiracy/invasion stuff from the first nine seasons was just Mulder being manipulated?
Then again, Mulder is so EASILY manipulated, I wouldn't be surprised if we find out someone's doing it to him again.
I liked the episode, but they did try to cram a whole lot of exposition into the first hour. It's a shame they couldn't have come back for 12 episodes instead of 6...or at least made last night's a 2-hour story.
Frankly, I HATED all the Gibson Praise/Supersolider stuff from the latter seasons, so if they're disposing of all that, good riddance.

It wasn't a trainwreck, but it was a bit disappointing.
Haven't we already been down this "it isn't aliens, it's the government" thing a couple of times already? Seems like just more tail-chasing.
I also though everything just felt off. The direction, the writing, the performances. Can't really put my finger on it, but everything just felt a little different. Like everyone involved had never seen The X-Files before and were just going on descriptions from someone who had seen it. Like those Chinese Star Wars comics.
The pacing seemed off, too. Like the episode could have been extended another half hour.
Not a fan of the Alex Jones-style fuckwit, or how easily Mulder fell in line with him.

Tempering my expectations helped. I thought the premiere was decent enough and didn't warrant the terrible reviews it received. As already mentioned, CC had to toe the line between making this a continuation of the original series versus approaching it with something fresh to attract a new audience. It's a tough task to do both successfully.
I agree the acting was rather dull and the plot was rather clunky. I thought the opening sequence was good w/Mulder's narration in an effort to get people in the right frame of mind. Liked that they kept the original opening credits. In for the rest of this mini season.

Liked it. I loved that they kept the original opening sequence, and used the same font for all the location/time info during the episode.
There were a handful of moments that felt cheesy or forced, but there were plenty of moments that it felt like classic X-Files.
Looking forward to seeing the next episode tonight.

This was bad. It was a bad hour of television. Had I been watching this with someone who'd never seen the X-Files before but was keen on getting into it I would have been embarrassed.

Web both enjoyed it as much as we did the average "Mythology" episode during the usual run. I have no idea why there are so many negative reviews and reactions.
And yes, Gillian Anderson just didn't look good in this episode. Not sure why, but she looked much better in each episode of Hannibal. Horrible lighting decisions on the X-Files? Don't know, but I definitely noticed a big difference given the Hannibal finale wasn't that long ago.

Underwhelming for sure, but it was great seeing all the characters again. I watched a 30-minute promo on Fox Saturday morning called "X-Files Reborn" that said the first and last episodes would be mythology episodes and the rest would be monster-of-the-week. I understand that Carter had to summarize 9 seasons worth of episodes, plus bring everyone who has never seen the show or the movies up-to-speed. That's probably the reason for the pages of awkward exposition dialogue. I am guessing (hoping) tonight's show will be a return to form.
Also, this skit on Jimmy Kimmel was pretty funny:

It was fine. I thought everything was basically just like how the show was.
Man people are remembering the original with massive nostalgia. The show never had consistently great writing, nor direction, nor acting.
