I didn’t like that preview.
Does nothing to make me want to watch this show.
Doesnt show me anything that connects it to the Watchmen story other then a bunch of people wearing Rorschach masks with eye holes.

I think it's supposed to be a sequel. It looks like Rorschach's journal got out and a cult has formed around it.

They’re probably not wanting to give too much away in the traler.
I’m a bit baffled that this got greenlit. It’s a sequel to a three decades old graphic novel. A few images released last year seemed to make it explicit that this a sequel to the graphic novel and not the movie.
As such, I could see this series going way over the heads of the average HBO viewer who hasn’t read the original book.
It’s an interesting experiment, but I am skeptical of its commercial appeal. It’s going to be a Herculean task to tell its own tale while giving the uninitiated enough backstory and context to follow it.

Like Westworld it can go either way, it all depends on the quality of the script.
That said I still think it should have been animated, much like HBO's own Spawn. There haven't been many western produced animated shows geared for adults (dramas) in the last 2 decades. Spawn and Netflix's recently produced Castlevania are the only two I can think of.

Eh I didn’t care much for the trailer either. Agreed that it doesn’t do much to tell me it’s tied in with Watchmen aside from the group wearing the Rorschach masks and the clocks, which obviously seem to be alluding to the Doomsday clock. Might give it a shot, but looks like it could really go either way to me. I had kind of hoped/thought that this was just going to be a limited run adaptation of the graphic novel. Though Snyder’s film actually isn’t terrible.

The Watchmen thing seems like the more it's killed off the more it comes back.
The movie was poor.
The studio released upteen million video releases on disk over the years.
I have no clue why.
I might give this a go, but I'm not chomping at the bit for it either.

I didn't support "Before Watchmen" but this HBO series looks interesting. Not amazing, but weird, interesting. And Jeremy Irons is in it! They still don't get how Ozymandias is supposed to be portrayed, but it's Jeremy Irons.

In Watchmen, Ozymandias has the appearance of a blonde Superman: square-jawed, good looking, and muscular superhero physique. He's introduced in the original comic series as a do-gooder who sold out in order to make money off his brand.
Another thing. I wasn't hyped when the Watchmen film came out. The CGI mechanical clock gears for the logo, slow-motion special effects fights and all that really detracted from the tone of the story.
This last teaser of this HBO series though does a better job of the ticking clock theme with more simplistic effects. The dudes in masks actually chanting "tick tock" might have been a little too on the nose, but Don Johnson's character saying the same thing at the end and "just discussing the end of the world" captures that imminent and ominous "something" in the same way the promotional material for the original series did. I liked the smiley face in the HBO logo too.

I got a real Project Mayhem feel from the people in the masks doing the chanting.
I think there could be something really interesting here. I think more projects should be like this: instead of remake after remake, take the original concept and do something new with it. I always felt the original novel relied too heavily on the reader's knowledge of the archetypes, and not having characters that they'd read about for years and gotten attached to. A series like this gives the viewer time to build up that relationship. Then the show can start the fireworks.
