HBO Confirms “Preliminary Discussions” For ‘Watchmen’ TV Series
HBO has spoken with Zack Snyder, director of the 2009 movie Watchmen, about a potential Watchmen TV series.
“Preliminary discussions regarding Watchmen have occurred, but we have no additional information and no deals are in place,” the network said in a statement following a report by Collider about the meeting with Snyder.
I hear that the discussion of a possible Watchmen series took place months ago, and there are no active talks going on with Snyder, who is busy working on a slew of tentpole DC movies: Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Justice League. Because of his full plate, he might not be able to be closely involved in a Watchmen series even if it goes forward.
DC Comics’ Watchmen, published by 1986, was created by writer Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons and colorist John Higgins. A Watchmen series would expand the DC brand to another Time Warner TV network, joining the CW, which has Arrow, The Flash and Legends Of Tomorrow, and TNT, which is developing Titans.

I'd love to see the Before stuff done with it, and maybe even a coda after the climax.

Get in line. I've been saying Watchmen was a perfect fit for HBO long before the movie came out. While I enjoyed the movie, the intricate narrative found in the graphic novel is perfectly suited to an HBO season ala Game of Thrones. Each episode can follow one issue of the comic series.

I could see it as a single 12 episode or so maxi-series of the graphic novel, but not really as an ongoing property, unless it is all pre-graphic novel. I would watch though. Also seems like it would need to be super expensive to have the right look and feel.

Probably. I did like the movie, so I would give the TV show a chance.

I think this actually happens. A live-action Watchmen HBO series makes way too much sense now that superheroes are the most popular entertainment in the world.
I'm expecting something even more faithful than the movie.
It's a real shame Alan Moore won't get over his petty feud with DC and WB and consult on the project.

Funnily enough as much as I don't care for his other DC films I actually didn't mind Snyder's version of Watchmen. There's room for improvement though and a series could be a good fit. Make it a twelve episode event series (one hour long episode for each issue) and it could be cool. I wonder if it would just be the main series or if they'd do any of the Before Watchmen stuff too.

From a visual stand point he knocked it out of the park, I just didn't care at all about what was happening or about anybody.

I'm looking forward to it. I really liked the Snyder version and thought the ending an improvement.

I want this to be a full reboot and not built off the [sudden switch to slow motion]m-o-v-i-e[return to normal speed] in any way.
