Why do people hate the word "anthology" so much that they'll use phrases like "a show like this where the seasons don't tie together and have new casts and storylines" instead? See how simple it is:

"The thing with anthologies is that it shouldn't really matter that much if a season was perceived as bad."
But yeah... put me in the "burn the negatives" crowd with this.

Well, I'll gladly hold onto my season 2 Blu-ray.

I don't hate the word anthology, who said anything about that? I simply didn't think to use it. No need to throw a fit.

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/437...true-detective

After a stellar run capping off with "True Detective" and "Interstellar," actor Matthew McConaughey's project choices haven't fared as well in the past year or two. "Sea of Trees" was widely derided at Cannes and has struggled to get to release, anticipation for this week's civil war drama "Free State Of Jones" is low, and he's got two voice roles on the way in some smaller animated features.

We'll get to really see him back in action with "The Dark Tower" which is currently shooting, but what comes after that? Turns out the actor is mulling a return to one of his best known roles - detective Rust Cohle in another season of "True Detectie".

Appearing on The Rich Elsen Show (via EW), McConaughey was asked about the series and revealed that he's talked to creator Nic Pizzolatto about potentially returning to the role at some point:

"It would have to be the right context, the right way. I miss Rust Cohle, man. I miss watching him on Sunday nights. I miss watching 'True Detective' on Sunday nights. I was a happy man when we made that for six months... You're actually getting better quality dramas on the small screen today than you ever have been. A lot better than the big screen sometimes."

At last report Pizzolatto was intending to write a new show for HBO rather than another season of "True Detective," but with the changing of the executive guard at HBO recently and the high-profile cancellation of the likes of "Vinyl," where things stand is anybody's guess at this point.

Eh. His character Cohle already had his arc and there's nowhere left to go with that. It would be interesting if he came back as a completely different character in a completely different setting.

The ending where he died in my mind was better. This won't work.

Casey Bloys seemed to walk back his no season 3 statement from last month. He said at the TCA today that they would like to do a third season if they have a story. He also said with Pizzolatto working on other projects, he would be in more of a supervising position with others doing the writing

If they hire a new showrunner and head writer, I would be more interested/optimistic about a 3rd season.

The show needs a new voice should HBO decide to continue with it. It shouldn't be hard to hire one. I don't know why HBO is so stuck with Nic Pizzolatto being involved with this series. Yeah he created it, but he doesn't own it now. Any TV writer can use his template and create something new out of it.

Season 2 was very entertaining for me, I'd love to see a third.

I was ok with the second season but the brand has been tarnished. It's probably better to move on rather than righting the ship. Let your creative voices work without the pressure of trying to live up to the first season.

I think knowing that Game of Thrones only has two years left has put the HBO execs in a panic. Not only are they talking more True Detective, I heard today they're thinking about a second season of The Night Of. Just let it go guys...look for something fresh and original.

They could finally give us a third, fourth, fifth, and sixth season of Carnivale if they need new programming.

Season 3 is currently in development. David Milch from NYPD Blue and Deadwood is joining the production team.

Wow, I really thought this series was dead after that disastrous second season. I like the idea of Pizzolatto collaborating with anyone -- let alone Milch.

Article says that Pizzolatto wrote the 1st 2 scripts, hope HBO asks Milch to look them over and revise them.

Yeah if a 3rd season does get into production, I'm glad Milch is involved. I'm guessing HBO said to Nic that they really want a 3rd season, but you need help badly.

Great news. I realize it's not yet official, but this could be an interesting approach if done right. I assume Milch is more of a mentor to babysit this through the scripting process and tweak as necessary along the way.

Deadline says Milch's role is still being determined. But, it sounds like it will be a Consulting Producer/Adviser position.

Not writing? I love Milch's dialog, except his "voice" for all his characters is always "angry as fuck", which I guess could work for TD.

A consulting producer would definitely have involvement with scripts. As the article said, his exact role is still TBD.

I'm so glad they are going to continue this series. The first season was so good and there is next to nothing on right now, police related, other than the same old procedurals.
