I was around 10 when the show was on. I liked it a lot. As I remember it, the last season or two got really weird and absurd. I never revisited it or watched it in syndication.

I loved this show. It was so smart. And I realized sometime in S5 that with Bernadette and Amy, the show had become dull. People had watched the show to see the guys geek-out and drool over Penny, not to see couples fighting. But at least S5 was decent. I believe I watched S6 and didn't laugh once, and gave up 3-4 shows in the season where Penny cut her hair, not only had I not laughed, I was fruistrated every second at how bad it had gotten. Pulled the plug on it. I don't know many who still watch it, but the ratings are through the roofs, it's become a typical bad comedy and the average viewer loves it.
When that shift happened it became like every other bad sitcom on television.

Interesting how season 5-7 of The Big Bang Theory not only had their biggest years ratings and critically but in this thread people are mad that they actually evolved these charecters(as much as can be on a sitcom like this) and omg their are actual females in the cast. Like did they except Raj to still be awkward around Penny after knowing her for 6-8 years or for Howard to never have a relationship and still perv out over a girl his friend is engaged to and has been dating for years.

I'd argue if The Big Bang Theory followed the advice of people in this thread you would have something stale , one note and bordering on repulsive like Two And A Half Men or Two Broke Girls

Re: When good shows go bad?
agree with most but for some reason I enjoyed Dexter more than the rest
Supernatural after the Apocalypse...don't remember...was it 5? watched 1,5 more seasons and gave up.
American Horror Story after Season 1...was started good and got too messed up for my tasting...3 started different and got too boring...4 lost me after 3-4 eps.

S6 of Community was pretty tough to trudge through. One of the things I loved most about the show was its smart writing and wit. S6 pretty much tossed all that out the door, and delivered cartoon versions of the characters.

I haven't seen S6 of Community but that's the kind of thing I worry about when a show gets brought back to life repeatedly, which happens a lot these days.

It couldn't be any worse than season 4. *shudder*

I'm not sure this qualifies as "bad" but I pretty much skip most episodes from Seasons 9-10 of Frasier. The writing just wasn't there and Daphne and Niles aren't as interesting as a couple and I found Daphne's mom annoying.
I agree with those that said Dexter wasn't as good after Season 2. I hate how they used to introduce "relationships" as a way of getting an actor screen time. Season 8 was a POS that I dreaded watching every week.

I don't think the girls detract from the series but its still managed to become somewhat one note. It just isn't as funny as it once was in my opinion. I really only started to feel this way during the last season but I think its been true a while. I was tolerating it more before but this last season felt full of duds and like the writers were just running on steam. Even the actors seem like they're not as into it anymore and are just going through the motions.

For a great show that went bad and then got its groove back, look no further than Friday Night Lights. After a stellar first season, the second season had some atrociously stupid and unrealistic plot threads (flying in the face of what made the first season such a great, realistic, slice-of-life success), but the writers seemed to learn from their mistakes (or, if rumors are to be believed, rid themselves of network meddling) and from season three on was probably my favorite show on television.
