Ken, the father, was Charlie's lawyer. It was mentioned in the episode. Charlie was previously arrested on rape, murder and pandering charges. However, one of the women who was hustling for Charlie disappeared before she was going to reveal Charlie's client list. So, Ken got him a deal and he was only in prison for Marijuana charges. And I guess that's how they are tied into together and how close they are. Plus now, Ken is a pretty powerful attorney.

That's what you get for watching the episode half asleep.

Thanks - Like I said I was having a hard time following the plot for some reason. I don't know if it was the music, but I almost felt like I needed to watch it with subtitles on because I found some of the dialogue kind of muffled.

Hulu has this as TV-14 , don't see how that's possible. Should be MA.

There was way too much music playing over the dialogue. We get it...it's the 60's.

I thought the show was ok. I think they could have done a better job with the chemistry of Duchovny and Damon. I didn't care for the procedural in the second episode. The son subplot seemed like filler. The Manson stuff is much more interesting and they should really stick with that.

I had the same feelings on those aspects. It might be a good blend of having main serialized storyline, with procedural blended in. I'll probably binge on the show a few episodes at time.

Re: Aquarius (NBC) -- S: David Duchovny -- Season 1 Thread -- Starts 5/28/15

I've only watched the premier so far, but in my opinion, they did a pretty terrible job in making Manson very menacing (even with the weird, rapey parking lot scene) and an even worse job in making it seem like he offered a compelling and seductive lifestyle to wayward teens (there was nothing in either the writing or performances that made it seem plausible that the seemingly normal good girl would just ditch her life and live on a dirty commune with Charlie and his gang other than some throwaway "I've not had to listen to my mom call me baby girl in five days...awesome" dialog).

It also felt very cheap and "networky" to me in a way that, say, Hannibal, never has (it seems like more money was spent licensing music in Aquarius than the overall production value of the show).

That said, I'll keep streaming the episodes since I like the overall concept, Duchovny worked pretty well for me, and the short season (I wish all shows would have shorter runs) isn't too much of a commitment.

Re: Aquarius (NBC) -- S: David Duchovny -- Season 1 Thread -- Starts 5/28/15

Watched episode 3 on Hulu yesterday. Not much happened. (not giving away any major plot points, so I didn't spoilerize my post)

Sam had sex with Grace, which was inevitable.

and Charlie was just fooling around and manipulating Emma some more.

Really don't like Brian as Sam's partner. The 2 guys don't mesh well at all.

Again, they used a lot of 60's music here. I can't imagine the money they spent on music licensing costs for this show.

Watched the first episode - won't be watching any more. Just WAY too cliche-ridden to keep my interest, from the music to the telegraphed plot and character progression - it's all stuff I've already seen a million times before and done so much better.

Re: Aquarius (NBC) -- S: David Duchovny -- Season 1 Thread -- Starts 5/28/15

I liked the first two episodes, though mostly when Duchovny was in the scene. The Manson stuff worked sporadically. The actor for him simply doesn't give off the stone-evil vibe you would expect from one of the most notorious criminals of the 20th Century. I guess he's a co-lead in this series, so they are focusing on the magnetic side of Manson.

I'll probably stick around for the long haul.

My biggest problem is that the actor playing Manson didn't convey evil or magnetic, at least to me. I've not gotten around to the third episode yet, so it could turn around for me and I plan on sticking with it at least for a few more episodes - I hate to judge any series before it finds its footing.

I think they are playing up Manson as some kind of sex symbol. Which is a crazy approach but there you have it.

Renly Baratheon is really the wrong person to play Charles Manson. Maybe if he was just some anonymous cult leader, but he just doesn't have the Manson vibe.

And Duchovney seems to be playing Joe Friday channeling Hank Moody. Or Hank Moody channeling Joe Friday.

Claire Holt is staying busy. She just turned back up as Rebekah on The Originals and has a large supporting role here. But nothing can compare to how many projects David Duchovny has going at once. Don't know how he does it...

This show puts me to sleep for some reason. I just can't get into it. I think I'm out.

I like the tone and vibe of this show. It probably would be a better show if they hadn't paired Duchovny's character up with a young heartthrob as his rookie partner.

I was surprised they had Claire Holt's character sleep with that guy to maintain her cover. That didn't seem realistic at all and done for dramatic license.

Tried watching it myself. Couldn't make it through the first episode. Just nothing there grabbing my interest.

Interesting. I had a feeling after watching the premiere the content was sort of watered down for the networks. Hopefully the Unrated cut hits home video or hits Netflix when Hulu's rights end.

Anyone still watching this? I'm letting it build up on my DVR, but am debating deleting.

Yes. I watch with my wife. Very meh. I like Duchovny, but there really isn't much else to like about it.

It's decent summer entertainment. There really hasn't been anything unexpected in it except a few things with Manson's character. Most people that like David Duchovny's work should probably stick around.

FYI

Pretty much the entire season on Hulu/NBC.com expire on Friday.

I guess no one here has bothered binge watching the entire season since it was announced that it would be posted. A do recall a reviewer saying that this show isn't really addictive enough to binge watch.
