I couldn't even keep track of what tournament it was or what the purpose of it was. Whenever I turned on Jeopardy, I just though, "Oh, Amy or the Steve Martin look alike is on again".

I was wondering if they were going to be having normal episodes this season, or if the whole year was going to be one tedious tournament after another.

You guys know the Jeopardy Masters tournament starts at the beginning of May, right? Get your complaining ready ahead of time!

Jeopardy Masters will be a primetime special series, while the daytime syndication will continue to show regular episodes.

Knowing this '80s pop song's lyrics was a most helpful clue. :D

Alison wins again to extend her streak to 5 games. I really like her and I'm glad to see her make it this far, but the last two games were a bit of a struggle for her.

Another easy one, but they got the year wrong in the clue. They were really created in 1984 and not 1983.

They were created in 1983, but they weren't published until 1984.

Damn it, I should have gotten that one.

But "fictional group created in 1983" put Spinal Tap in my head, and I knew that wasn't the answer (for one, 'Tap predated 1983) but it got stuck in there and I couldn't think of anything else.

I think they drew a design for a singular Ninja Turtle in 1983. They didn't flesh out a team of turtles until early 1984 from what I recall. That would be like saying The Avengers was created in 1962 because Thor first appeared in Journey into Mystery in 1962, even though the idea for the Avengers team wasn't formulated until 1963.

One night in 1983 — and neither can remember why — inspiration struck. Eastman drew a humanized turtle wearing a ninja mask and carrying a katana blade. The idea of a slowpokey turtle as a swift and wily ninja cracked them up. By the end of the evening the artists had created four tortoises. Eastman quickly christened them the Ninja Turtles, but then, in an absurdist wink at two of the most popular themes in comic books at the time, Laird lengthened the name to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles…

Very impressive run by Adriana. 15 wins. 11th longest streak. Big DD bet by Drew won it.

Seems rather strange to use "Naturalized US Citizen".
Why not just say "Canadian"?

Because it’s the USPS and they are honoring famous “Americans”?

Another 5-day champ.

I was impressed that 2 of the folks knew Fort McHenry. Easy for me - grew up in Baltimore, but figured 99.9% of the population had no idea of that.

OK, that addresses the daily afternoon one.
What about the celebrity primetime specials she hosted?

So Ken Jennings is back again this season on Celebrity Jeopardy?

I guess that closes the door on Mayim Bialik, making her the Brian Dunkleman of Jeopardy!

I can't believe Neil deGrasse Tyson couldn't answer that question about Saturn's moons. rotfl (Nobody buzzed in on it, so it's not like someone else beat him to it.)

And he lost the whole game to a Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling actress.

The universe no longer makes sense...

My wife and I are casual Jeopardy fans but we have loved Pop Culture Jeopardy and have watched all the episodes so far. I though Colin Jost was a vanilla choice for a host but he's done a really good job and has some funny moments.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

I found myself somewhere between annoyed and infuriated on yesterday's Jeopardy when Jamie was dinged for pronouncing Leibowitz as Leibovitz (with a v instead of a w) when he answered A Canticle for Liebowitz.

That's actually the correct pronunciation of the name in German, Polish, or Yiddish, with the "w" being an Anglicized version of the name. Both should have been acceptable. I expected them to reverse that call, but it didn't happen.

Still a classic science fiction novel...

andicus 04-23-26 02:35 PM

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

^Yep. I wondered the same thing and was very surprised that it wasn't accepted.
