For those like me who were wondering, The Tournament of Champions will air in November.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

It's gonna be epic, considering it's gonna have 5 of the top 15 all-time consecutive game winners in the tournament (Amy Schneider 2nd, Matt Amodio 3rd, Mattea Roach 5th, Ryan Long 9th, Jonathan Fisher tied 13th). And I'm happy that Ken, who is 1st, will be hosting.

No more Clue Crew. Sarah will be a full time producer on Jeopardy and Jimmy will be the Jeopardy stage manager.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

On this week's Inside Jeopardy podcast, they revealed the details for this year's ToC. They are going with a new format, with a total of 21 contestants, no wild cards and the final is like the GOAT, where the first to win three games wins.

The ToC Tracker shows 19 of the contestants, the last two will be coming from the new Second Chance Tournament. The top 3 seeds (Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio, Mattea Roach) are automatically placed in the semi-finals, the other 18 will compete in 6 quarter-finals, with each winner going on to play in one of the 3 semi-finals. Then the 3 winners will compete in the finals, with the first to win 3 games being the champion. So there will be a total of between 12 and 16 games.

It looks like Saddie Goldberger, the contestant who got cheated out of a win because they claimed her answer was illegible (even though most knew it wasn't), will be in the Second Chane Tournament next week.

They've talked about that on the Inside Jeopardy podcast, the problem wasn't that it was illegible, the problem is she didn't write the last letter before time ran out.

They said she didn't finish, but most felt when they looked at it that there was six letters and that it was completed. The thing was, they claimed they couldn't make out an "n" at the end. Looking at the handwriting of the winner of that episode, the third letter she wrote in the last name looks like a "v" and the sixth letter in the last name looks like a "c" and not an "e". By Jeopardy's own rules, misspellings are allowed as long as it doesn't change the pronunciation of the word or name. Either letter or both in combination would have change the pronunciation of "Tubman" and made hers incorrect as well.

I listened to that episode of the pod as well. My issue is that they said on the podcast that the light pen stops writing when time is up. So, is what appeared on the screen showing an extra letter that she didn't write before the end of the time, or did they know that she was still writing after time expired and therefore she must not have completed her response? Clearly the argument can be made that what was revealed as her answer seems to be complete. Messy as hell, but possibly complete. That's why they have judges though. I guess, the moral of the story is to write neatly, quickly, and not in script.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

Well, an interesting first half of the tournament. Jessica is a cutie, but I don't understand why she wagered any money on today's episode. Since they were adding the scores from yesterday's episode to today's totals, she didn't need to wager anything in Final Jeopardy and she would automatically be the champion of the first week. Yet, she wagered $10k which would but her in jeopardy of losing. You don't win the dollar value total of the two games for the tournament, so I don't understand her logic for wagering anything.

I had a hard time watching and listen to Molly answer any questions without picturing Kimmy Gibbler from Full House.

Yeah, what is the story there? Was she just super nervous?

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

I'm glad Saddie won Monday's game in what was a very easy Final Jeopardy. She deserved to win after being cheated out of her regular season game. She made sure she wrote very legibly and Ken even made a joke about it.

Good thing she wrote neatly and got the whole answer in this time.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

Rowan dominated today's game. I don't remember Rowan during the regular game, but it looks like this person could compete fairly well against the champions that won five or more games the previous season. Nikkee resembled Kaley Cuoco a little bit, but I don't remember her from the previous season either.

Loved Saddie talking about internet support, she got a nice dig in at the BS ruling against her on her initial game.

Rowan is a dominant player, but is annoying to watch. It's like having a morning-drive DJ on Jeopardy.

Last night's TOC QF was excellent drama between the DJ DD hits/misses and then FJ. A great example of game theory in FJ.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

I've found the questions in these QFs to be easier than regular Jeopardy. I'm knowing about half the answers. The second chance tournament was really hard. I barely knew any answers.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

It feels odd watching these TOC players, who are a lot smarter than me and who had good runs during the regular season, going into Double Jeopardy with everyone having a low score.

I felt the opposite. The Second Chance tournament clues were much easier for me than the championship tournament clues thus far.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

I wonder what criteria they use to decide who pays against whom in these championship games. Do they do it at random, put the very top scoring players again each other, or mix the very top players with the lower ones so that towards the finals most of the very top players will most likely still be in the tournament close to the very end.
